Myers, Dehli & Brix et al. show that early colonization by aromatic lactate-producing bifidobacteria lowers the risk of food allergen sensitization and atopic dermatitis. They followed 147 children from birth to age 5. What is the mechanism? ⬇️

⁉️The ARC has delayed outcomes of ALL grants 1–4 months & increased scheduled outcome windows from 2 weeks to 3 months!

This reverses 4 years of progress in providing greater certainty & ability to plan for researchers, their families & unis.

Their excuse? Security checks under new ARC legislation👇

Every opportunity politicians provide for you to tell them about how chronic underfunding of research in Australia is affecting your particular fields, people, working conditions etc. is extremely important.

How Politicians (mis)Perceive Policy Salience

Several recent studies have found that politicians aren't very good at estimating public support for policies. But we have little idea about whether politicians are good at knowing which issues are more important to voters. Our new publication has a first go at answering this question rdcu.be/eQGm4

The fight against AMR will not be won in laboratories alone, but in our shared habits of everyday life. We need infection prevention, vaccination, hand hygiene, and a global culture that values responsibility over convenience and stewardship over complacency.

This week, we lost one of the world’s greatest advocates for people and nature. Even in her final days, Dr. Jane Goodall was urging us not to give up, and now her legacy lives on through the countless voices she inspired.

My favourite Jane Goodall quotes....so many, so to the point, so wise. How different the world would be if enough people listened to her.

“There Was So Much Death.” A Toxic Algal Bloom Is Ravaging Australia’s Southern Coast—Warming Waters Are to Blame. Three ingredients are required for an algal bloom to get going – temperature, the right conditions and food. South Australia had all the preconditions necessary, thanks to climate change.

The start of the algal bloom off the South Australian coast began like a horror film and only grew worse from there. I took a direct look at the role of climate change in making this disaster in my home state for @drilledmedia.bsky.social.

A method to identify positive tipping points to accelerate low-carbon transitions and actions to trigger them - Sustainability Science Meeting the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to “well below 2 °C” requires a radical acceleration of action, as the global economy is decarbonising at least five times too slowly. Tipping point...

Positive tipping points for climate, like the UK phasing out coal, show how big steps toward a low-carbon future can suddenly become unstoppable.

Can we identify where the next tipping points could happen, and figure out how to help trigger them?

These researchers say YES.
