A Black-capped Chickadee showcasing winter fashion by donning a snowflake accessory.
A tree with a blue cloudless sky. The tree is a little less than 10 metres tall. The branches have no leaves on as it's winter, and the branches are full of pigeons.
Close up view of a lot of pigeons on a tree
A cold snap followed by some mild weather has caused the local pigeon tree to bloom much too early.

Drawing of an eastern hercules beetle - a beige beetle with a horned thorax and spiky legs.
Drawing of a bright green jungle nymph - a stick insect with a large abdomen, tiny wings and spiky legs.
Drawing of a chinese tiger beetle. It has a metallic shiny surface with blue, green and red highlights. Its legs are long and slender. Oh, and it has impressively large mandibles.
Drawing of a dragon flower mantis, an unusual thin insect with slender legs. It's red orange and yellow.
Hi #portfolioday, I'm Martyn. When I'm not drawings bugs, I'm drawing other bugs.

My god. The news is horrible. More horrible than usual.
So here is the Chrysilla Jumping Spider from Southeast Asia.
Stop doomscrolling and look at these.
A hummingbird is perched at a feeder. It is mostly white with some green and black. It is a genetic variation that removers color from some of its feathers.

fanciful drawing of a branching green algae covered in several ostracods
D is for Dichotomosiphon (it's the algae)
A macro photo, side angle, of a multi-colored grasshopper on bright green leaves. The grasshopper has large black eyes, a neon green and yellow face with black markings, patches of bright red-orange on the thorax and abdomen, yellow and black jumping legs, and bits of metallic blue and green elsewhere on the body. It is decidedly not attempting to blend in with the leaves.
A little color to start off the weekend β a vibrant monkey grasshopper, Paramastax sp., from Colombia. They really do look like this - no saturation or vibrance added during processing. #bugsky ππΏ
A stunning male Resplendent Quetzal perched vertically on a mossy branch. The bird has an iridescent green body, a bright red chest, and extremely long, flowing tail feathers (train) that hang down vertically against a blurred green forest background.
I guess these birds are OK. A bit showy, perhaps.

Can I drag your attention to the artworks by contemporary Czech palaeoartist, Vladimir Rimbala. His works are a perfect mix of modern science and retro composition (π§΅)
#Dinovember2025 had Megaraptor in the list but I decided I wanted to do Gigantoraptor instead! After seeing it in a museum recently and it was very impressive!
I went for shaggy ostrich-like feathers on the arms instead of neat and tidy wings like other theropods

Black Crakes chasing each other in South Africa
One of the funner moments from my South Africa trip occurred when these two little borbs decided to chase each other on the edge a lagoon.
(They're Black Crakes, btw.)
Photo of a watercolour painting of a cute mushroom creature. A big round yellow orange cap with white spots. A big smile on their face and a little snaggletooth
Little Eggie! A little mushroom painting I did yesterday because I could.
Silhouette illustration in black ink of a feminine figure in 18th century dress with voluminous skirt and a tall wig topped with feathers. The figure is seen in profile, facing left. Her face is that of an exposed skull. She carries a mask of an elegant face on a stick in one hand, and a fan dangles from her other wrist. She stands on a grassy bank and appears to be about to step into the water, one foot raised above the ripples.

Photo of an object in front of a plain white background. The object is a soft-sculpture made of wool. It's a breakfast radish in red and white with white roots growing out of the bottom and big leafy dark green leaves growing from the top. It's also in a bird pose and standing on two bright orange chicken legs. It's an odd animal.
Years ago I went through a phase of putting chicken legs on ... stuff?
Everything I've ever made has always been a bit absurd and self-indulgent.
For example: here is a breakfast radish on legs, which I made of wool and wire.
