AFAICT the ceasefire essentially never came into effect. There is now a serious situation at Al-Aqtan prison, where many IS fighters and suspects are held, apparently. It is under direct attack? Exact situation very unclear.
The followup meeting between Ahmed Al-Sharaa and Mazloum Abdi has ended, apparently resulting in a breakdown in dialogue. The SDF claim Damascus demanded that there now be a total surrender. There will therefore be an attack on Kobane, which is now effectively surrounded, and more on Hasakeh
If the current moment proves anything itโs that no other western country should be willingly giving the US more leverage over its internal affairs.
Barely anyone on this site covering Rojava or Syria generally. Couple of Syrian journos, but barely more than that.
NEWโ Terms of the Agreement Between the Syrian Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF):
๐ The Syrian Ministry of Defense: Opening safe corridors to allow civilians to return to their areas and reactivating state institutions.
๐ Redeployment of state institutions to resume their duties in serving citizens.
Breaking | Syria
The Syrian Ministry of Defense announces a nationwide ceasefire and the complete suspension of military operations on all fronts, in accordance with the agreement between the government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Syrian tribal forces are on the move toward al-Hasakah.
Confirmation video from Mazloum Abdi out now. For the want of a nail.
I love this story so much: a teenage South Jersey punkโs quest to track down her momโs 1994 demo share.inquirer.com/xHc0Cf
I dunno, the terms have got progressively worse and worse as this process has dragged on, and I doubt many expect them all to be honoured.
Just generally very grim
It's just so quick. And not to be a stereotypical twerp lefty but like. There is genuinely complete silence about this in the west amongst previously deeply committed people and orgs. Stunning.
SDF and STG have announced that they've struck a surrender deal. The AANES/Rojava project is gone.
This is now confirmed. Raqqa is now under control of the STG
Federalization is definitely dead though
The SDF are gonna have to abandon most of the territory they previously occupied. I would expect that there will be local personal reprisals against Kurds and ppl who worked with them in the areas they've left around Raqqa, the river etc
Well thats it. raqqa is done already, the YPG and affiliates are going to pack up back to Hasakeh, Kobane, Qamishlo, etc. end of the project.
There's a claim going around that the SDF has left Raqqa but most recent reports and videos indicate ongoing firefights so who knows
Aaaaand it's starting. Skirmishes in Raqqa city now

2024: can Europe defend itself ALONGSIDE America?
2025: can Europe defend itself WITHOUT America?
2026: can Europe defend itself AGAINST America?
The EU can start delinking itself, especially in tech, from the dying American empire. Hurt the Tech Bros and Trump will suffer for it.
It's driven by defections. The SDF leadership didn't take the task of mutually integrating the kurdish bits of the forces with the Arab bits seriously enough as far as I can tell. That combined with local political disenfranchisement hollowed out the tree trunk and now it's being pushed over
SDF fully withdrew from Deir Hafir and Maskanah, Govt forces entered. Clashes broke out btw Maskanah and Tabqa which SDF didnโt announce a withdrawal from despite reports that that was US position. Govt now attempting to clear all of right bank Raqqa by force.

Unbelievable..
Syria TV: 40 towns/villages in Eastern Deir Ezzor under the control of Arab tribesmen (hundreds of thousands of whom have fled to Europe in recent years, especially Germany, Austria and the Netherlands).
Video was leaked today of UK police setting dogs on and using CS spray on people seeking asylum, protesting their detention under the "one in, one out" policy, inside a detention centre (in case you thought the UK immune from what ICE is doing in the US): www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
Looks like the EU-US trade deal is now dead, with all three major groups in the EU Parliament calling at least for suspension. The downward spiral has already begun.
At current pace we could be looking at a collapse in forces and holdings for everything west of hasakeh in the next weeks or even days. Deir ezzor is basically a lost cause and Raqqa is on a knife edge.
