In addition to admiring folx that lead the way for actual change, we need to learn from them. They didn’t suffer and put their lives on the line to see everything they worked for torn apart. We all need to be advocates now.

Thank you @chrisreykdal.bsky.social and for this message. I was born and raised in WA, educated in k-12 public schools, and received my BA and MA from WSU. I’ve only ever attended and taught at public universities because I believe ALL kids (and adults) deserve a quality education.

Let’s not forget the people who make the most impact in our local communities. They are our lifeline now, and they need our support!
There are many donation requests from politicians and political PACs. But, we need to support our local public libraries, local public radio (NPR) and broadcasting stations (PBS), and organizations trying to protect civil rights such as the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, local refugee assistance groups…
Here’s the lesson I learned (or relearned). In times like these, access to information will be tampered with. We need our libraries and librarians and reliable media to help us navigate through barriers of information retrieval.
Last week, the fed govt took down the youth.gov site. This page was linked to one of our student activities related to information literacy. Luckily, we found the archived page within minutes so that our students could still use the resource and our instructors could still use the activity.
