A cartoon illustration of a man down on the floor vacuuming and being surprised to see a bearded scared man hiding under the credenza. Caption reads "And then one day, quite unexpectedly, Peter found Jesus."

LET'S NOT PLAY FRISBEE WITH THAT POET ANYMORE.

[This is a comic strip, with a poem laid over it. On each panel a new line of the poem is written. The scene is a park, in the summer. A man in a trenchcoat - implicitly Philip Larkin - stands folorn, motionless, looking at people throwing a frisbee. It becomes apparent as the comic progresses that they are trying to play frisbee with him. He stand stock still for the whole comic, watching the frisbee as, panel by panel it soars closer and closer to him].

After contemplating the approaching frisbee for two silent panels, Philip begins his thoughts:

Unloosed, unheralded,
You soar toward me
Across the dying afternoon.

bright disc of childhood,
Long since thrown wide
Of Youth's green imaginings,

Your slow declining arc
Figures a sky-written truth:
We will all succumb, and soon

To earth's hard oblivion.

[The frisbee hits Philip on the head with a resounding DONK. He falls backwards, to the ground.

[Ends]

@charlayn.eurosky.social long term memory vs working memory: itโ€™s just that your short term memory isnโ€™t very used to working lol Nothing (or less than feared) to worry about

Grise, a longish time ago I read a poem of yours about trains and stations. I liked it a lot. If you know which one I mean: would you consider reposting it? Or dm-ing it to me? Would really appreciate that

Cinematic and linguistic delight: Bergman wouldโ€™ve surely ROFL-ed watching it, and speaking Swedish turns out to be a piece of cake (take that, Duolingo)

Drawing of a woman in a spiffy pink suit reading a wall of negative comments in speech bubbles, with a large caption: Nevertheless, she persisted.

What war in reproductive rights?
Feminists are annoying
Youโ€™d be so pretty if you made an effort.
Stay-at-home mom? Get a job.
Frumpy
Youโ€™re too old to dress like that.
Why are you getting so emotional?
Your husband is totally whipped.
He picks on you because he likes you.
Working mom? Youโ€™re neglecting your kids.
You just havenโ€™t met the right man.
You run like a girl.
Over-secretive
Youโ€™re wearing THAT?
That time of the month, eh?
Girls canโ€™t do that.
Why didnโ€™t you just leave him?
Youโ€™re going gray. You should dye your hair.
Youโ€™re formula feeding? Thatโ€™s not good for the baby.
Whoa, take your meds!
Thatโ€™s a manโ€™s job
She was asking for it.
Your clothing is distracting the boys.
Dyke
Slut
Whoโ€™re
Frigid
Feminist
Bossy
*Catcall*
Calm down.
Smile!
May I speak to th le man of the house?
What are you wearing?
Youโ€™d be so much prettier if you wore makeup.
Women will complain about anything.
Youโ€™ll want kids someday.
You need to lose weight. For your health.
So many kids. Keep your legs together.
Youโ€™re wearing too much makeup. You look like a clown.
Youโ€™re too skinny. Eat a burger.
Arenโ€™t you cute?
Your biological clock is ticking.
Youโ€™re too fat.

Dynamism of a Dog * on a Leash.

*I used to know this dog (read as: his descendant) personally. His name was Eric, and he was the terror of the neighbourhood (as reported by our dog who was 3x his size)
