Chaosium founder Greg Stafford was named the 2025 recipient of the E. Gary Gygax Lifetime Achievement Award at #GaryCon today. Presented annually, the award is named after the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons and recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the gaming industry.
Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.
Please share, may be some that did not know the VA proviides the program, AS OF NOW
👋 I’m curious, have you seen the newest Nosfertu? (I’m planning to see it Tuesday)
How do you think it compares to the original? How about compared to Herzog’s 1979 remake? What in our culture beckons a remake of this classic every couple of years?
I left out the important part of my reply “on silent films” there is a fair amount (a glut?) of “film crit” on blockbuster-of-the-week” but not nearly enough honest thoughtful consideration of the masterpieces of yore.
So thanks again for providing this service.
Exactly!

For historians/ppl who know history: did the German public who were complicit with the rise of nazism ever realize they were the bad guys? After the end of the war, did the public by & large understand they were wrong? Or were they just upset they lost? I know you can’t generalize to everyone but…
I am so glad I found you here again! I followed you for years on the site that shall not be named, and really missed your content.
Surprisingly, there is not a lot of really good content and especially film crit/commentary to be found.
Thank you so much for filling that void!
The horseman rises in THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN (1922), which unfortunately underestimated how much decapitated Hessian the audience wanted and way overestimated how much Will Rogers.

I finally got the chance to check out #AstraLumina in Seattle this weekend. A walking experience where lights and sound come to life to tell a story. It’s moving on a visceral level. Highly recommended!
I don’t know how I’m just learning about this Patreon now, but this needs support. Please join me in backing this project!
Thank you for the introduction, my individual consciousness did not manifest it, and my algo failed me. I’m caught up now and subscribed. Very interested to see where it goes.
So sad I missed this one. I’ve read a lot about it and critical breakdowns, but nothing can compare to actually experiencing it. One of the seminal productions in the genre.
Looks more like GUAC (with a few chips)

It’s that time of year again… time for the Internet Archive’s annual public domain remix contest.
So many early sound films entering public domain this year… Blackmail (Hitchcock’s first with sound), Dynamite (Cecil B. DeMille), The Black Watch (John Ford)
