I think it's the way it defines itself, since I feel like it didn't lean hard enough into "not MORE nonhuman, but it IS different", which would've been important to avoid this kind of thing a little bit
Which is frustrating! And part of my issue with holothere, it gets pushed into sort of a "more therian than you" word, when it's supposed to include a lot of things that aren't even necessarily therianthropy
Along with that, I've seen people recategorized because what therian means/entails had weird lines put in it. I've seen "if you get phantoms, that means you're a physical therian" even though that would be MOST therians, and most therians are not physically nonhuman
Like one of my headmates grew kind of jaded and stopped interacting with the alterhuman community much since the linguistic gap got annoying. She's not a therian, or otherkin, theriform fits but is off-limits, and theriformic is ill-fitting. Extranth is ok but has other issues. Nothing's perfect
Branching off for additional thoughts, but I think it's because holothere is super broad. It's meant to be a short synonym for physical nonhuman, but in that vein our system doesn't find it specific enough since it includes so many things that are different
The creator of the term theriform proposed "theriformic" but it's?? Ehhhh...
Because theriform is for regular animals, but iirc is strictly that and not for physical nonhumans of any kind. So theriformic is defined as "theriform-like without being theriform" doesn't feel right for that use case
I'm on the fence, because there IS a linguistic gap for physical nonhumans that therian doesn't cover. But I'm unsure if holothere (and by proxy holothere therianthropy) is it. Rn my headmates use extranth instead, which is convenient since it's a plural term, but doesn't solve much for non-plurals
The date is March 9th, 2026. I walk outside and am not met with a cool breeze. I am then bitten by a mosquito. Hell is returning
Sure! Your messages seem to be closed though
Been designing acrylic charms for myself and system members, and can anyone give advice on getting individual charms? I don't need a bunch of duplicates, I just need one of each lmao
"Wokeism" ๐ญ
Yeah, I've only seen it referred to as "therianism" on bsky. It feels like ppl assuming it's a new-age religion or smth, not knowing that "can sometimes be spiritual" =/= "is a religion".
Like, someone's gender-identity can be influenced by spirituality, but holy shit it's not called transgenderism
While we're here, does anyone know where therianism (the word) sprouted from. Because ppl (usually furries) keep calling therianthropy "therianism" and I can't figure out a reason why besides just not knowing the terminology well
Same for ppl not knowing therian is abbreviated (from therianthrope)
It's fine! A lot of people on bluesky call it therianism (for some reason, I have no idea why) which can give the impression that it's a religion
It might sometimes have spiritual aspects (some therians believe they were an animal in a past life, some don't) but it's not a whole religion by itself
If you don't mind some input, therianthropy isn't a religion though (a reason it isn't called therianism). It's origins are in werewolf/wereanimal media and folklore
100/10 ragebait movie
I love The Devil Wears Prada, it's such a fuckass movie I hate 99% of the characters they're awful
Yeah ๐
Ppl use โโท as a stand-in but it's not Quite the same
Otherkin do have an official symbol though? The septagram
Unless you mean unicode or emoji-wise in which case no
Oh gdi, is there another one?
I think labels broke on the official bluesky app, noticed my pronoun label is gone too
Yeah, horses are very common! I'm mostly talking about "seen over time" (period of about a decade) and not "if you go here you'll find tons of horse therians all in one place".
Those "why are there so many [type] therians" posts annoy me, but also yeah foxes are one of the most common theriotypes ever lol. Up there in the "top 5" (with wolves/dogs, big cats/domestic cats, coyotes, and horses in no particular order)
There's something magical as fuck about moonlight shining through a window
I'm currently working on a draft for a guidebook to organizing, because we're currently at the stages of having to plan sociopolitically. Not quite on the Laws stage yet, but at least on the awareness and education stage
We kind of Do want respect and freedom to be therians without risks of job loss, being institutionalized, etc. But we get that includes supporting other groups we intersect with (like queer pride, mad pride, etc.)
Even when ppl are trying to be supportive, it will be like "look, masks! Quads!". It makes me want to groan, it doesn't even begin to encapsulate what therianthropy is. It feels like flanderization
I've seen confusing posts about LatAm therians (and bsky in general) wondering if therianthropy exists outside of that region. Not seeing posts in other languages by default is probably the explanation. Doesn't explain search engines failing, but does explain bsky at least
