1) Tell students you’re going to ask an AI assistant a question about what they’re reading.
2) Students anticipate what the AI assistant is going to say.
Three social media posts read, “So let me get this straight… USAID has been spending millions of taxpayer dollars every year funding not only the BBC, but also Politico?” and “Fun Fact: @Politico received USAID funds” and “Elon ascertained that Politico receives about $8 million annually to spread liberal propaganda. He halted the funding, resulting in Politico missing their payroll. As a result, none of their personnel received payment today.” Also included are screenshots from a government spending website that lists $8.1 million for Politico, LLC. The News Literacy Project has added a label that says “FALSE.”
❌ NO: The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) does not provide Politico with $8 million in grant money a year. Tips for following developing stories & sticking to the facts:
1 Be patient
2 Know what you don't know
3 Seek out multiple sources
