Prior to Trump's 2nd presidential term, the % of the American population that were immigrants was only slightly higher than in 1900. Did immigrants "destroy" America in 1900? In fact, immigration helped create the vaunted "American century"

Same! We were a block from Trader Joe's & it's the only reason we ate anything except pizza lol! But I grew up working class,so I'm very content with things like Banquet Pot Pies, rice, PBJs, mac & cheese, Spaghettios, etc. If left to my own devices, I could get by on ~$20/wk. Not fun but doable.
One of the main reasons I live in such an expensive locale is that I can walk to almost everything. We have 1 car for visiting family, but otherwise, it's public transportation & living in urban density.
Interestingly, that was my experience high school, via the AP program. European History taught me how to write academically (a skill that I discovered was shockingly rare in undergrads) & US Gov't challenged my biases. In both cases, the key element was the teacher.
