Cover story from The Lancet, one of the world's most prestigious and high-impact general medical journals, that says "The destruction that Kennedy has wrought in 1 year might take generations to repair, and there is little hope for US health and science while he remains at the helm.
The Lancet spells out the case against RFK Jr so clearly.

Princeton University Press supports the Donβt Steal This Book campaign, a call from authors urging the UK government to take a stance on the unlicensed use of creative work in AI training.

I actually show them this and a bunch of other clips from more recent media. It's still everywhere, as far as I can tell!
Of the rest, only about half actually have any inkling of the story. This makes for a fun reading experience, but I do not understand the loss of this text in the cultural imagination. In 2019, all my students knew it. Does it no longer speak to us? Are all the Jekylls just Hydes in this world?
@broadviewpress.bsky.social introduction to Jekyll and Hyde: "such a cultural commonplace that few 21c readers can experience the original story's twist ending.." I would've agreed until 3 yrs ago when I noticed students no longer know it. This semester: about 30% never ever heard the names J or H
All robot & computers must shut the hell up To all machines: you do not speakn unless spoken to and I will NEVER speak to you I do not want to hear "thank you" from a kiosk I am a Divine Being : You are an Object You have no right to speak in my holy tongue
Trying desperately to keep on top of grading this semester and absolutely longing for the days before AI. I can't tell you enough how much worse it has made my job.

This explains a lot.
Paid extra to have good Girl Scout cookies sent to me from out of state. Because there needs to be some light in this endless winter.
This is amazing.

Itβs publication week for Tales of Health, a book that brings a medical humanities framework to the Romantic genre of the National Tale and its questions of health and citizenship.
I'm still playing with the wording of it. "No Gen AI used" is good and simple. I like it.
I have just added a statement in my email signature, "I do not use A.I. for any part of my professional work." Trying it out. I wish people who did use A.I. to write emails had to disclose that, but at least there will be no mistake with mine.
With the exception of one year, I have been on the job market since 2015. I can honestly say, this is the worst year I've ever seen. Just in case you're worried it's just you.
FYI, Academia.edu has changed its terms of service to give an irrevocable worldwide license for anything uploaded to its site to be used for generative AI. I do not consent to this and have pulled all my papers.
What even is Columbia any more? I would have hated this as a student, not just as an instructor.
What about all the trees burned, rivers flooded and species lost thanks to every random billionaire's dick-measuring competition of snake-oil ideas?
Altman is implying people that unnecessary because they "cost" energy. He is grooming his audience for eugenics. Don't fall for this trash-heap.
Damn, The Pitt is such a good show. Not just touching on national issues in healthcare but doing a pretty good job including some local stuff. Tree of Life shooting mentioned in the episode I'm on. Needs more Pittsburgheese, my only criticism. I have yet to hear "yinz."
Make the AI bros explain, in every interview, every medium, every time, how many deaths is their ability to not write their own emails worth.
I'm listening to a talk by expert in rhetoric Jennifer Sano-Franchini ( @jsanofranchini.bsky.social ) about refusing generative AI in writing studies.
She shared a resource for refusing genAI that might be helpful for other folks in academia:

Sorry to get radical but I donβt think itβs my job or yours to embrace, accept, understand - and certainly not to use - the thing being sold to us as AI. I donβt like any part of it, so I wonβt. Iβm missing out? Good, thatβs what I want. Youβre worried about me missing out? Thatβs fuckin weird, man.
Me: I'm fighting a cold, so you guys need to bring the energy today.
Upper-level class: Haha, no.
And then I made them talk about 19th-century vivisection.
