Thanks! I wonder if I have it set so only mutuals can DM me. I've had issues with creepers before.

Thank you again. I really appreciate it.
π’ it says I can't message @laurenblish.bsky.social . Do you know of another way to join in?
I looked at the feed and it seems pretty hectic... not sure how to join in yet.
Thanks so much!
I do remember the wild ride! I wrote a paper on the symbolism of waterfowl.
May I ask about Bluesky book club? Might be something I'd enjoy.
I found this article reductive and patronizing, but I did like that the writer was in a "difficult book club." I like the idea of taking on a challenging text alongside a group, to bring in different ideas as you're trying to interpret it for yourself. I could get into something like that.

Thanks for this. I didn't get this from my Melville seminar in college, but then I was a teen and didn't know much about a lot of things at that point. I think it's time to revisit a classic. π³
Thinking of re-reading Moby Dick. Anyone else?

We need articles of impeachment. Daily. Until he's gone.

Ableism runs DEEP in US culture. Most of us never have to find out how deep & entrenched it is until WE get some condition/injury that lacks fast/easy/affordable fix.
Folks can either adopt disability justice wisdom/practice or fall prey to guys like him.
Shades of the Tuskeegee experiment ... so if you've been dismissing disability rights folks saying that RFK jr is a Eugenicist of the early 20th Century kind, this is your cue to decide they're right about what he is.
I don't like it, but the price of gasoline isn't why I want this war crime spree by my country to end.
Writing moustache-twirling villains who profiteer off poor people's suffering seems edgy and one dimensional in fiction, yet it's just another fucking day in the real world.
That's definitely more adventure than you needed. May you have a swift and uncomplicated recovery π§‘
The article says it's called a "proteini."

I miss the Indian grocery in my old neighborhood. The spices I would get! Big bags for less than one of the little jars at the supermarket.
commercial: 2 out of 3 people suffer from depression. talk to your doctor today. me: [hurriedly phones dr] hey do you suffer from depression [pic of dr on phone]
They call it a "proteini."
Yum. Makes me think of a pumpkin tortelloni with mascarpone sauce I used to get when going out with the in-laws. And now I'm hungry.
Because they view politics as a sport and want to have more fans than the other team, Democrats love to do "zingers" (for some definition of "zinger") to garner applause, rather than make any changes to the actual game.
Most economists agree that by the time you're 50, you should be living in a book-filled cottage at the edge of the forest and solving minor mysteries in your village with the aid of a curious ghost cat.
One thing every American needs to be clear-eyed about is that we are the bad guys in this war. We started this war, for no reason. We are committing war crimes. We could end the war, but refuse to, for no reason.
Uta Frith said masking isnβt real, late diagnoses were probably wrong, and non-speaking autistic people who write may be lying. She admitted she had no proof. None of it was challenged. I wrote the response she didnβt get: www.canarysend.co.uk/canarysendbl...
Loved this one!

It's good, I guess, that I can give my PCP a name or two when I need to see a specialist. But it's usually up to me to figure out what kind of specialist I need and then advocate for a referral. That's a lot to manage from bed.
My clinic has proven minimally helpful. Basically, there is a nurse who you have to contact several times to get a response, and if you want to see someone, she gives you some names you can call... no referrals, no direct care. 1/2
