Los Angeles!
That new Pixar movie bombed so badly that even the damn lamp has to sleep on the street…
That said, as fantastic as it is as a singular piece of art, TBD how it works as a museum!
The new LACMA / Zumthor is revelatory...

It may sound dorky, but that's exactly the sort of polycentric metro that a polycentric city like Los Angeles needs. More thoughts, and photos, here - www.thecurbivore.com/p/a-polycent...
The most exciting thing about the new LAX / Metro Transit Center? It's not the fast ride to the airport or the architectural grandeur, it's the fact that this is the first time, anywhere in America, that two non-downtown serving rapid transit lines connect.

Close to home, I'm excited to see @metrolosangeles finally break ground on the Southeast Gateway Line. This would be the nation's (and maybe the world's) first truly express LRT line, providing faster service from dense SELA to Union Station and the Civic Center
It's pretty bleak out there on the federal level, but take some solace by looking at the success transit + active transit had locally. Places as red as Tennessee and as blue as Seattle, as big as Maricopa County and small as Mountain Village all voted for better futures.
I know the Mount-Royal tunnel preexisted, but it seems like most of the route is new infrastructure? IE the before and after on this shot, doesn't seem like there'd be any cost savings just because there used to be at-grade track... www.google.com/maps/@45.482...
Now a whopping $6.4B CAD for 5.8km - montreal.citynews.ca/2024/09/24/m...
@alonlevy.bsky.social Any thoughts on why the Montreal Blue Line extension is so overpriced, while REM managed to be reasonable? Can't just be tunneling...?
Why is that bad? Keeping hotel uses segregated from residential uses is big American zoning brain…
