Keep an eye on this tech, y’all. I still maintain that this will make fMRI mostly obsolete in the next few years.

Svenja Knappe kicks off her lecture in Freiburg. She's been awarded the Carl-Zeiss-Humboldt research prize for her achievements in development of optically pumped magnetometers, particularly for their use in #MEG. Well deserved, herzlichen Glückwunsch Svenja!

We are very happy and proud to be awarded the The Neuro - Irv and Helga Cooper Foundation Open Science Prize.

To paraphrase Yaroslav Halchenko who was in Montreal to receive the prize on behalf of the whole community.

"Standards are the common language of open science!"

An involuntary twitch in my finger is enough for them to see me. I tremble as I look at them. They have no face, no eyes, only a cold silence. They breed quickly. New ones drag at my hands just as I subdue another one.

I call this story, 'I receive a lot of emails during this time of the year'.

This answers another post of mine "how close is classical MEG from being replaced by OPM s" ;)
Please tell us how it goes :)

Or a very very good helium recycler!!!
Our 4D is getting toward the end of its life
We want to explore the OPM alternative... How close are we to replace Squids?!? We shall see....

OPM and MEG DORKS (like me) this is my feed about magnetoencephalography, it gathers posts based on keywords too so it can be a little dirty, if you want to, use the 🧠📟 (brain+pager) tag. Picks up the activity of MEGUKI, Biomag and MEGNORD communities.

Left plot shows how a sphere is inadequate to approximate the brain without it intersecting with nearby OPM sensors. Right plot shows how spheroidal harmonics can generalise to a sphere, but some spherical harmonics do not generalise well to a ellipsoid.

New paper from Tim Tierney, the third of his trilogy denosing OPM-MEG data.

When you pack sensors this close to the brain, SSS has the potential to be an unstable method. Spheroidal harmonics and a smarter projection method may be the answer.
