In a first, AI models analyze language as well as a human expert
If language is what makes us human, what does it mean now that large language models have gained βmetalinguisticβ abilities?

What I want is a deep and special partnership with the bakery where I buy my morning coffee.
I want seamless access to their coffee, fewer barriers between me and caffeine, and closer cooperation overall.
However, I do not want to queue, speak to staff, pay, or actually enter the shop.
If theyβd allow EU students to pay home fees, the amount of students wanting to do a masters or PhD online or hybrid, would skyrocket and make the unis a lot of money. Most students wouldnβt even need to set foot in UK. Can study from their own continental apartments.
Naja Γsterreich auch.

Why canβt they just leave people alone? What is this absolute obsession with making peoples lives even more difficult when travelling literally 20 miles under the seaβ¦ unthinkable about 20 years ago
The thing is this will have huge implications on Brits in EU who live & work under the withdrawal agreement. Why canβt you just leave us all alone? We had to live with unanswered questions for months about our status before the WA was finished and now they want to open it. Just let us live in peace
As a British national in Austria, Iβm toying with becoming a citizen now. Iβve only ever worked here. theyβd curb my benefits as well here if the UK did that EU nationals. Itβd be retaliation and would make sense as well.
Yes
This is really awful! It seems like itβs university after university cutting modern languages. Cardiff wanted to last yearβ¦
Such a shame, I remember when I studied in 08, our BA course in German and Spanish had a fair few students. Spanish more so, and French was booming as well. Whatβs happened?
Think it was like β¬60.
These sorts of guys are fanatics and should do an ancestry dna test to see what lineage they have. Mine was wild!
That is a very waffly chat gpt text. I canβt really understand what her overall point is supposed to be
Nice to see Fiona chime in whilst heβs making a very valid point. Donβt see her doing that when the right waffle awayβ¦
FT graph showing massive UK public support for the opinion that it was wrong to vote to leave the EU.
Ah! Good morning, reality. And welcome. Weβve been expecting youβ¦
Can we all just appreciate how wonderfully eloquent the speaker was and how well the message was delivered.
It really is not the EUβs problem if it affects travel of non eu citizens.
Weβre exempt with long term residency cards. Theyβve got them in Vienna now. As of this Sunday theyβll be used but anyone with a long term residency card is fully exempt. Quite smug, I must say! π
Next time Iβll try a proxy I think ππ»
My postal vote arrived 3 days after the election ππ» I complained but it was shrugged off.
Some countries donβt allow dual citizenship. (See Spain and Austria). Why would anyone want to give up their EU citizenship for a British passport? Longer queues, no rights in the EU. Nein Danke
Actually Iβm pretty sick of listening to the news in the UK. Leaving the ECHR, opening the withdrawal agreement etc. this just puts Brits abroad once again in a insecure place. Something we do not need after the Brexit uncertainty.
What an odd thing to say. I work in Austria and pay a lot of tax & social insurance, Iβd be pissed if they suddenly said after working here full time for 13 yrs that my benefits (if needed) would disappear bc some Tory decided to make UK, again, an extremely unwelcome place for pretty much everyone
2045: We need to leave planet earth to control our borders.
Just heard Chris Philp on BBCβs Today programme explaining why the Tories want to leave the ECHR. He claimed ECHR isnβt mentioned in Belfast Agreement - which is simply untrue. The UK govt agreed to incorporate it into NI law & give direct access to the courts (Strand 3). Why no BBC fact-check?
If you take notes using AI - using it to summarise and help you write up your work, constantly being strict with yourself as to write the text yourself - and then use it to correct mistakes it can be a time saver and a good way of proof reading your work.
We need to educate kids on how to use it
Tend to slightly disagree. It really depends how you use it. If you copy and paste text without actually understanding what youβve written then of course you wonβt recall anything. Itβs the same as when a student plagiarises a whole article and hands that in as their own.
