The fact that the Americans may be out of the global baseball tournament because they don't understand pool play is true poetic justice.

Canada has advanced beyond the first round of the World Baseball Classic for the first time.

They beat Cuba 7-2 to win Pool A.

Biggest WBC moment in national history. So far.

Eric Cerantola needed one pitch to close it out.

IDK, lots of places have ditched the penny. Math skills don't seem any worse than the US.

I think the big obstacle in the US, honestly, is the extreme elitism in the legal academy. Relying on student editors from elite schools feeds into that.

Agree with both of you about length.
I also think moving to peer-review wouldn't involve half those things. In other countries, legal academics are expected to get PR articles not student-editted law reviews. All it takes is shifting norms around hiring/promotion. 1/2

just posted a new paper, How Tech Took Over, to SSRN.

It's about how decades of legal and policy interventions made the tech industry an essential partner in public governance. I map the kinds of functions tech cos are performing today, and I argue that their activities are salient to con law.

Oh just whatever ones come with the Rainy75 Pro. I think Cocoa? But I'm using it out of the box - no customization here other than choosing my colour.

It feels like the best piano you've ever played, it sounds like rain on a tin roof, and it looks incredible too. Just a magical thing - especially for us millennials who grew up on chunky Model M keyboards.

Pro tip no one asked for: to get back into writing, I got this new, fancy mechanical keyboard, and I'm telling you this thing is magic. I cannot walk by my desk without wanting to write a little, if only to hear those keys! I've written something every day since I got it.

Elite institutions seem to impart to their scholars a license to just shoot from the hip. Occasionally leads to interesting talks. Often leads to just ridiculous nonsense.

Oh I know! None of this matters and it's a stupid point. Even more stupid of him to mention it. It had NOTHING to do with his argument. Cicero's rhetoric is actually a great model. Not something to be parodied as a kind of fake reductio.

04.03.2026 23:06 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Obviously not the point, but the Cicero reference is pretty funny too. That speech worked, did call out an actual conspiracy, and did actually marshal support to save the Republic. LPE could be in worse company!
