all my teacher friends said the 2nd point during all the early covid confusion. ugh

a: i think you're right about what distresses people (the focus).
b: when ppl are upset about a clip like this, i wonder if they've ever thought seriously about what sports are, or why humans engage with sports, like even for a few minutes.
"a woman"????
this is so stupid. people are so embarrassing.
yup
(i'm suggesting the same point wants to be consider around ballet, opera, film, etc)
i think there's also room for the "this sounds like a naively combative college student talking, but it's actually true" take that: "flatly saying that theater still matters at all, without many caveats, is a nakedly classist position to hold."
the position that Newsom shouldn't even be in the conversation is the correct position. so....
i was all set to say these scenes are still male gaze sexist trash, but once i recognized the secret method of their creation, i felt ashamed of my words & deeds.
this is a very wise insight. trolling itself in the early 2000s was often considered relatively cuddly--consensual and without conscious ill intent at the very least. it still turns into SA then into 4chan bc it already contained these forces. life is complex and power relations get loud.
leading with an ambiguous "we" was probably not the most inclusive, respectful move.
if only we participated in self reflection and critical thought, we could maybe not fall into obvious left-blaming traps like children.
why are you like this?
it's totally ridiculous. let the ex Nazi be redeemed as "local man who does nice things." don't let him anywhere near the opposition party, come on. racism has blinded people to the point of unbelievable stupidity.
(also totally not wanting to jump on the quoted poster either! just pointing out how loaded "escapism" is)
Yes, and I think "escapism" itself is worth interrogating. if stories about, say, fighting for justice aren't "escapism" in unjust times, one may want to ask why? one can "escape" doomerism with resistance. if resistance reminds you of victims and you want to "escape" that, something might be off...
STS1 was in early access a long time, and i think mechanically STS2 has been in development for like 5 years / ever since localization demands froze substantial updates to STS1
it's so good. a lot of "win consistently on a20" knowledge carries over, a lot does it. it's more complex in interesting (instead of game breaking) ways (so far).
for years and years, something was about to happen (though it didn't happen). now that thing that, for years, was about to happen within seconds, won't happen, because something else happened.
and enforcing this when the block is coming through subscribing to a block list is a clear security vulnerability that needs to be fixed!
given that that's actually what happened in this case, that's fucked and @moderation.bsky.app should change it! this is simply a security vulnerability that should be patched for the sake of users.
i hope that at the very least they investigate to make sure people aren't blocking @moderation.bsky.app through a blocked list. if not, it creates a huge vulnerability where someone who controls a popular block list could mass ban users who, say, don't log in for 24 hours.
honestly (and my posting history i think bears this out) if you're not being directly addressed and you don't personally know the poster, 99 times out of 100 you should only post to uplift or contribute to a point someone is making (or to just offer stuff that's explicitly or contextually requested)
This cozy-thing-you-would-spend-money-on will really satisfy your world-doesn't-feel-terrible need, don't miss it.
evil and stupidity are not the same thing, and yet evil "intellectuals" so often say shit like this.
this film losing in any category at any awards show is like "be serious..."
so embarrassing. not weird that he dngaf this hard, but that we got here.
corollary: white celebrity/intellectual who has cogent, informed, correct view on race or politics, must be celebrated for the herculean achievement of seeing past their white privilege. Black ppl should be automatically correct regardless of stakes, white ppl risk nothing and thus must be praised.
the platforms are just as responsible to cultivate community and be mindful of impacts on marginalized communities as anyone else.
it's somewhat cliche, but the responses to singal and people's complaints about anti-Blackness are why bsky is not the utopia anyone is looking for. it is what it is.
"compare the more toxic elements to 2000s and early 2010s 4chan" warning is on point. 4chan wasn't some weird forum invented by billionaires or grown from right wing militias. it was very online people with no power analysis or mature concern for targets; often funny, savvy, leftist, etc
(& WHITE!)
