Hutson and colleagues demonstrate that men get hired as faculty in archaeology PhD programs more often than women, putting strain on women PhD mentors. And they have some suggestions about what to do about it, too.

Today Komiลพa on the island of Vis celebrates St Nicholas (locally called Mikula), the protector of sailors and fishermen. Every 6 Dec an old wooden boat is burned in front of the hilltop church of St Nicholas โ a powerful ritual of gratitude, renewal, and respect for the sea. ๐ฅโต๏ธ๐

What a shameโa missed opportunity for great television! This is Nepos Street in Split (Diocletianโs Palace), where Julius Nepos, the last Western Roman emperor, was apparently murdered.
I find that the general public often imagines Romans only in 1st-c. BCE/CE military gear. So when a documentary puts someone in a late 4th-c. CE uniform and still calls them โRoman,โ itโs confusing. Anywayโฆ if Julius Nepos isnโt in it, Iโm not watching.
