Humanitarian leader Jan Egeland has just returned from his latest trip to the West Bank, where he says Israel is entrenching its occupation of Palestinian land each day. "You see how the place is annexed and the occupation deepens," says @sg-nrc.bsky.social.
But states must also dramatically ramp-up funding and ensure that they are delivering real commitments for the millions who are stuck in a decades-long cycle of violence and neglect.

The funding received for this vast crisis equates to about five cents a day, per person in need.
This Conference must push for safe, unhindered access and an end to administrative barriers that prevent humanitarians reaching those in need.
🔴 Of the 21 million people in the country in need of support, fewer than 7 million are likely to get any help at all
🔴Many children have no access to education – 1.3 million children are entirely out of school
🔴Millions of families have no durable shelter, and no access to clean water or sanitation
Today at the Great Lakes Conference in Paris, it's essential we see an end to the neglect that has condemned so many in DR Congo.
DRC is facing one of the world’s largest displacement crises globally – 5.7 million people are internally displaced, including 2 million since the start of this year.

Many of those currently being forced to flee Gaza City have been displaced 10 times already.
Some people are fleeing with only the clothes on their backs.
This is an assault on a refugee camp.
The offensive on Gaza City must immediately end.
Without fast and flexible funding, those affected by the earthquake will not be able to rebuild their lives, and the suffering will continue. NATO-countries must not forget their promises to stand by the Afghan children, women and men that they left behind in 2021.

Needs are enormous, but too little funding is available. We will use all available resources to provide cash assistance, drinking water, pipe repairs, energy biscuits, shelter kits & essentials to survive winter.

The failure of global diplomacy and of conflict resolution efforts— & more than anything the failure to protect civilians—is astounding.
The number of displaced people is now three times what it was in 2011, & demonstrates a deep global crisis around governance and the protection of civilians.

In 2024 we saw huge numbers of people displaced in all corners of the world.
That fact that over 123 million people were forced from their homes at the end of 2024 is a damning verdict on our ability to defend families from blunt violence.

Mozambique: Leonardo fled with his family from Mocimboa da Praia in 2021 after their village was attacked
He was forced to leave behind his bakery and the livelihood that sustained his family.

Moussa, 48, fled a brutal attack on his village just weeks ago.
He arrived in Muadi with nothing.
His home was torched, his family scattered, his surgical wound reopened during his escape.
“I fear death,” he told me. “I’d rather die from illness than be killed.”
Here in northern Mozambique, displacement camps are filled with people fleeing from not just one horror, but from several.
Conflict, floods, cyclones.
Here in Muadi, families who fled 4 years ago now live next to new arrivals from last month. No one is going home.
Mozambique is being battered by ongoing conflict, climate disasters, & extreme hunger, as global funding cuts leave up to a million people stranded without aid.
I've seen the toll caused by a global retreat of solidarity & funding here this week.

The lack of progress is both a policy failure and a moral stain on humanity.
Now is the time for governments to show political will and financial investments for lasting solutions to displacement.

Over the past year, I’ve met with internally displaced families in DR Congo, in Palestine, and in Sudan, and listened to them speak about the devastating impact of displacement on their lives and their hopes for the future.

For how much longer will the number of people affected by internal displacement be allowed to grow, as a result of a lack of ownership & leadership?
Every time humanitarian funding gets cut, another displaced person loses access to food, medicine, safety & hope.

A record 83.4 million people were living in internal displacement at the end of last year: the highest number ever recorded.
Internal displacement rarely makes the headlines, but for those living it, the suffering can last for years.
