I don’t think I’ll be wishing anyone a happy International Women’s Day, but I hope plenty of them are having a fruitfully angry one

I remember working for these guys as one of my first jobs as a teenager, racing to answer using as few characters as possible how many stamps you’d need to send a horse through the post. Good times
Only upside of when @nexustheduck has to go on a trip somewhere without me is I get to use his in-car text to speech that reads out his messages to pretend to be the car like he's in Night Rider. I like to think this is what normal marriage is.
Living near fancy Cotswold adjacent villages has its perks. Got myself a new £££ John Lewis lamp for free because a lady was just giving it away on Facebook 🤷♀️
many current problems began when people started trusting computer. you must never trust computer. computer is the machine that hates you
Happy new year friends. May 2026 treat you kindly.
Screenshot from the Sainsburys website using their new AI search functionality. The search bar prompt reads "Why is everything expensive?" and the result says "Whoops, we're still in Beta. We're still learning and sometimes that means we can't return results for your request just yet. Try some of the prompts below."

Sainsbury's claims that I can use their AI search to shop how I think and yet my thoughts remain unanswered...
Can we go back to the days when politicians said that they really wanted to help people but it’s very hard and takes time, rather than saying that they want to hurt people and can do it quickly?
It took me a second to realise you weren’t having an existential crisis here
An excellent module. One I think all healthcare researchers, clinicians and policymakers would learn a lot from, though I do suppose I am pretty biased ☺️
Finding it increasingly difficult to navigate various social medias without being triggered by certain types of posts that cause really negative, unhelpful thought patterns for me but hit a new low today when I managed to get got by sodding LinkedIn of all places
Screenshot from The Simpsons. Mr Burns is in casual, hospital appropriate clothes looking pleased. Smithers is with him looking concerned. Text on the image reads: “Indestructable.”
When my blood disorder increases my clotting ability so much that i don’t even bleed when i manage to accidentally stab my hand with a knife
Hey guys great news one of them told me “stop worrying” so guess I’m cured now
Stress of tradesmen in the house is amazing. I'm anxious before they arrive about whether they'll show up and then immediately anxious once they arrive about how long until they leave. Wonder what not living in a constant state of fight or flight feels like, guess I'll never know.
Recovering from a rubbish day by going to the local park and appreciating all the dogs having the best time
Noticed that the Katabasis hardback is cheaper on Amazon than the Kindle edition. I’ve heard all sorts of justifications over the years for why ebooks shouldn’t be priced cheaper than print but I’ve yet to hear one for why an ebook should cost *more* than its physical counterpart 🤔
There is nothing quite so humbling to one’s ego as the professionally taken academic photograph, my word
Is this a deliberate act of subterfuge on the part of the marketing team so we all let “This is Beyond” slide as a slogan?
i remain much more concerned about what humans will do to each other with AI than I am about what AI itself will do to humans
Amazon review of Pride and Prejudice, left by carlton p morgan on 30 July 2010: "Just a bunch of people going to each other's houses"
Happy 15th anniversary of the peak achievement of literary criticism, to all who celebrate
Without proper nuance, "self-care" rhetoric shifts blame for systemic problems onto individual people. You can't meditate your way out of medical debt. Positive thinking won't raise the minimum wage. Sometimes the most caring thing you can do is get angry at the right systems.
Variables I didn’t foresee when buying our new coffee machine: the cat sitting in my latte and subsequently me having to brush latte out of his fur
Worked out last night that since randomly joining Cat in a Flat a few years ago I have now met over 20 local cats in my area and all of them have been excellent. Would recommend.
Screenshot of a report: TEMPERAMENT Expressed some opinions and told lots of stories Nervous and benefitted from lots of reassurance Wiggly
Our cat Biscuit had his grooming appt today and they sent us his report card but I think I'm just going to use it as my bio
It’s the simple pleasures in life of singing immigrant song as a duet with your screaming cat in the morning when he wants his wet food
A park with lush green grass and large green trees underneath a clear blue sky
Put the laundry on and went to sit under a tree in the park around the corner from new place because that is a thing I can do now
Moved into our new house at last. Wonder when the feeling that it’s a trick will fade away and I’ll stop feeling like any moment the real owners are going to show up and chase me out with a broom.
I forget who I heard it from but the essence of conservatism is "Couldn't be me." I could never get disabled, I could never be injured on the job, I won't be arrested, I won't be deported.
Genuinely reduced to making phone calls to these people saying “I don’t plan on doing anything, just tell me which set of solicitors I need to hate most”
Past 4pm on the day of our house exchange and the conveyancers casually drop an email asking us if we have a spare £30k to make up a deposit shortfall elsewhere in the chain. Pardon me while I just go get my infinite money chequebook???
