This will allow Water Board staff to develop permanent regulations the we hope will allow recoveryโฆ
Great news for the Scott and Shasta Rivers: AB263 was signed by Gov Newsom keeping instream flow protections in place for the next 5 years!
That's @cawaterboards.bsky.social
In 2025 weโll be pushing regulators @CaWaterBoards
to consider water availability and flow standards for the LSR! Fish used to live this spring fed mountain river that is lined with riparian vegetation all the way up to over 6000โ elevation.
Recent rain on snow events ramped the flow up and the LSR began to come out of its incised banks. Looking west from Harry Cash Road.
Little attention is being given to this once important salmon stream and money continues to be spent with nothing but water diversion infrastructure to show for it. Pic of fish from the LSR in the early 1900โs.
Every summer, the LSR disconnects from the Shasta and dries up due to legal and illegal surface water diversions and groundwater extraction.
Weโll leave this year by thanking anyone who donated to us on Giving Tuesday ๐ซถ๐ป We would also like to point your attention to a very important tributary to the Shasta River- the Little Shasta River (LSR). The headwater springs on Klamath National Forest are trampled by free range cattle every summer.
December 3, 2024 is Giving Tuesday and we would be honored to receive donations from any of our supporters that believe in pressing for equitable water use in the Shasta and Scott rivers. Donations can be made here: www.northstategives.org/organization...
Moving over from that platform that shall not be named has taken us some time...we are glad that there's finally a groundswell of #CAwater folks here now! Hopefully some state agencies will pop up so we can tip them off to the ๐ฎ๐ฉ in the Shasta and Scott rivers where we fight tirelessly!
