We often say “you can’t pour from an empty cup” but forget to talk about the flip side: All that is possible when your cup is full.
When educators have the capacity to tend to their own wellbeing, everyone benefits from that abundance. We are all connected.

You can just see how this could fit right into a lesson on propaganda. It’s incredibly dangerous and manipulative to suggest that DEI somehow takes away from learning with the “students should be focused on learning” of it all.
Oof. Gut punch.
This is the grant-funded initiative that was cut yesterday. A number of my colleagues will lose their jobs. Hard-to-staff schools will become harder to staff. Just a disaster.

Preparing a brief for my team on policy shifts impacting K-12... to name 3 of MANY:
- Attendance drops due to fears of ICE raids
- Threats to educators supporting nonbinary students
- Probable elimination of federal $ and all equity-driven initiatives
All within a system that was already hurting.
Smirk, cry, or scream. Definitely one of the 3.
As of late I’ve also learned that my library has the only free & publicly available notary in the area! I appreciated this very much.
Other things that libraries do or have:
1. Host citizenship classes
2. Host ESL classes.
3. Have seed libraries.
4. Have autism support kits.
5. Have Narcan on hand for overdoses.
6. Have developmental toys
7. Have language learning databases.
8. Lend laptops & hotspots.

And given the overt xenophobia that our electorate has voted back into control, no one should be surprised by the complete erasure of funding for English Learners from this bill.
And… failing to include a plan for Title II at a moment when burnout, attrition, and staffing shortages are all major issues impacting schools across all 50 states? Oh, okay.
The first bill to dismantle the Department of Education has already been filed. Redistributing DOE functions to other departments, the bill makes no mention of the largest annual K12 investment, Title I. Shocking.
