We need to do better for our new teachers. Too many universities are not preparing our new teachers with the knowledge of structured literacy. In a 2 year program, they don’t have an excuse not to!!
Ontario teachers - don’t forget to tell any teacher candidates in your schools that they have access to the Decoding and Spelling course through IDA Ontario for FREE. From my experience, they are still not getting this type of learning in their teaching programs. #onted

That was exactly my email to the ministry…. But they didn’t care to hear it.
What’s worse is that the January/Feb screener for mid year will be reported on in June!! I tried questioning the ministry about it, but they’re holding tight to their plan. :(
Of course we will be in contact with families, but it may be inaccurate mark on a legal document . :(

Ontario literacy educators: I’m about the make QR codes for easy access to the language curriculum for our Family Literacy Night. Has anyone already done this and willing to share before I start?
I'm looking for suggestions on helping those "transitional stage" spellers to move into the "correct stage". Is there more I could be doing than just continuing with explicit phonics instructions? There are parts of the code we haven't learned yet, but they are attempting to write them!
