I'd even argue against that: the 2 is a coefficient to the bracket no matter how it's interpreted.
Dividing the 6 by the coefficient of the bracket is just an error, period.
That is the correct way to do it. A lot of mistaken people argue that it's ok to divide 6 by 2 then multiply by 3, getting 9.
Dan is 1000% correct about the 'implied denominator' because once you get beyond.... 7th/8th grade? You pretty much stop writing division signs, so the order is explicit.
