For the first time since November, I've got a new best career run. Would not have guessed that Ryan would be the one to do it, since I almost always struggle with her runs. And so soon after my really good Ayabe run, too.

After 9 yeareals, it's finally my turn to post the "a thousand cereals" clip, seeing as how I'm the idiot who made it.

The more I've sat on this game, the more I've realized I really liked it. The weird design decisions all worked once I got used to them, and really added to the story in some cases. I'm bumping this up to at least a 9, if not a 9.5 or 10/10.

That said, there's a lot to like about the game. Once you get a handle on the weird platforming abilities, it becomes fun to move around the complex mazes the game throws at you. And the combat, while more limited than HK, does make for some very solid boss fights.

There's a boss in the late game that always 2HKOs you no matter what, making any HP powerups feel worthless anyway, and the map is often not working in your favor to figure out how to get to where you want to go. I had to look up a full map online to navigate the late game, which is never fun.

And now, for my biggest gripe with the game: it often feels like it is very against the player. Losing your money permanently on death unless you find a place to bank it is a pain in the ass and makes buying upgrades tough in the early game, and taking away HP upgrades permanently feels very unfair.

The story was serviceable and notably does't require that you watch a two hour lore video to understand it, though the puzzles to unlock the true ending were pretty cryptic. Presentation-wise, the cel-shaded artstyle looks great, and the music fits the tone nicely.

This game obviously takes a lot of inspiration from Hollow Knight, and while it doesn't hit the same highs as HK does, it's a solid game in its own right. Compared to HK, there's less complexity in combat, but the platforming is much more difficult on average.
