Electric buses are passing a brutal cold-weather test in Wisconsin Madison is proving electric buses can run through cold winters, providing a blueprint for zero-emissions transit in other frigid locales.

Interested in this--the important piece seems to be that the range impacts of cold weather on BEBs seem to be decreasing as time goes on. But! Mandatory 15-min dwell time to recharge at the end of a route, or midday return to garage, are *major* operational inefficiencies. grist.org/transportati...

Based on those visions, I chose to highlight a few of these investments and priorities I would like to see.

Luckily there are at least two significant visions competing on the progressive side of politics, both emphasizing investing in our future and breaking from the political malaise that has characterized the last 50 years.

Let's Do Good β€” Thomas Bardenett We are in a dark place at the start of 2026. There’s no sugar coating the grim view of the world that is currently taking hold as a result of the present federal administration. The administration is ...

With all of the batshit crazy things happening in the world + the deterioration of the American system I felt the need to think about what a positive vision for the future can be

I’ve read a bunch of stuff but one of the most clear headed pieces was the MN StarTrib sports column by Jim Souhan and the part that sticks with me is just a half sentence in the middle alluding to the obligation of pro sports team owners to the safety of their workers (think arena cleaning staff).

Ossoff: "This is a seismic event. This should have people across the country absolutely shook. This is a huge deal. This is an FBI raid on the Fulton County Elections office ... This is a shot across the bow at the midterm elections. He tried to steal power when he lost it in 2020."

Hearing that your closest friends look up to you is something you're not always emotionally prepared for, but it makes you proud of the person you've become and the impact you've had on those that matter most

The Holiday Season Really Celebrates Walkability β€” Thomas Bardenett What do you picture when you think of the holiday season? Lights? Busy sidewalks? Store windows packed with decorations and gifts on display? A Christmas tree in the heart of the city? Are you seeing ...

With Christmas less than a week away I thought it was a good time to revisit a blog post from a few years ago that really highlights why the holiday season feels different than the rest of the year - the nostalgia for how our cities & towns used to be walkable

The Other Reason Americans Don’t Use Mass Transit People will take buses and trains only if they feel safe while riding them.

The American centrist punditocracy has decided that what the US transit industry needs are endless lectures about the importance of security.

These writers misunderstand the problem, and are making things worse. 1/

There're similar worries to the re-development of the East Adams neighborhood. Affordable housing is needed and should remain the main focus but this development, if done in this way, essentially creates a β€œpoor” building and a β€œwealthy” building which does not help create a truly mixed neighborhood

Councilor Hogan is correct to be worried about this. A true mixed-income development should emphasize mixed-income in all phases. By placing market rate in the later phase, it runs the risk of never occurring.

Walsh administration pushes to start biggest Syracuse housing development in decades Some common councilors have questions about the complex deal.

β€œHogan said his biggest concern is that the market-rate housing planned for a future phase might never get built. That would alter the original concept of building homes for a wide range of income levels.”

Whenever I travel I look for ideas that we can borrow and adopt as our own here in Syracuse. This is especially true when visiting other northern cities who prove that you can embrace other forms of transportation even in the face of rain, snow, and cold.

Yes, the City can continue to adhere to this guidance in some way shape or form anyways, but it can also choose not to. By adopting it, it gives the plan more weight and signals that this is a long term strategy, not just another plan to collect dust on the shelf.

By adopting the Action Plan, it would strengthen the City’s commitment to its goals and ensure ...that all projects must consult with its guidelines as it goes through the design process. The critique that β€œit’s just a plan,” is short sighted and doesn’t capture why having a plan is important.

I don’t really understand why you wouldn’t vote to adopt this as a framework for how we design our streets. The Vision Zero Action Plan highlights the streets and intersections of concerns and provides a guide for how to address them.

We haven’t even heard one thing Cuomo *likes* about the city. Contrast that with Brad Lander and Zohran Mamdani who have made the symbols of New York part of their campaigns, from the Cyclone to the Subway.

Sometimes I think about the Senate and get ridiculously angry at the amount of propaganda that has gone into convincing the American people that rural voters deserve more of a voice than urban voters.

Broadway's 2024-2025 Season is the Highest Grossing Season in History The Broadway League has released end-of-season statistics for the 2024-2025 season, which began on May 20, 2024, and ended on May 25, 2025. See the statistic here!

It obviously doesn't hurt that there were some hit shows with big stars this season, but claims that congestion pricing would kill Broadway were always among the most ridiculous.

Many people see "the mall" as the antithesis of a city's urban core, yet malls are often found in urban centers in cities across the globe. Syracuse's lone remaining mall is in trouble and, at this point, I think our city would be worse without it.

He wants to turn Alcatraz into a domestic gulag right in the middle of San Francisco Bay. He calls out judges who won’t let him deport whomever he wants without due process. It’s an attack on rule of law.

Putting aside that Alcatraz is a museum & tourist attraction, this is both nuts & terrifying.
