At a women in STEM event today, someone bemoaned the lack of women doing computer science. At tea, a young women who had left the AI/tech world told me this: “it’s just full of men lying about how good they are & constantly competing”. Just maybe the problem is with tech culture & not the women… 🤔

One of the benefits of using alt text is that it makes you think about where an image comes from and why you are using it.
Another is that it makes you think about what it would be like not to be able to see the image. Putting ourselves in other people's shoes is always beneficial.

Pretty crazy data mapped here by @MappingFL: The 1919 US House vote on the 19th Amendment to give women the right to vote showed geographic patterns very familiar to students of history...

Did you know that magnolia petals taste of ginger? Tried one for the first time last year - they're delicious! Go for the white ones with a hint of pink, otherwise the flavour is quite strong!

Yesterday the NHS banned all under 18 prescriptions of HRT for trans young people.
This ban was justified by 10 new studies that largely stated NO EVIDENCE for under 18s HRT exists.
The study underpinning this played one particular trick.
Let's briefly look at how the NHS rigged the game 1/5

Damage to the Rokeby Venus from The Illustrated London News of 14 March 1914 – b/w photo showing the painting of a naked woman lying on her side while a cherub holds up a mirror for her. The figure has slash marks on her upper and lower back
It’s the 112th anniversary of art student and journalist Mary Richardson spending a couple of hours sketching in room 17 of the National Gallery. Then, when she’d apparently lulled the attendants into a false sense of security, she took a meat cleaver to Velázquez’s ‘Toilet of Venus’ 🧵

You know the best way to kill AI? Don't use it. Don't buy it. Don't share it. Don't give the people who use it your labour or your money.

Search Government Contracts over $10,000
According to the federal contract database, Canadian government departments have spent more than $5 million on Teslas in the past four years. That seems like an easy line item to cut. search.open.canada.ca/contracts/?s...

This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

Vast majority of Canadians want Andrew removed from royal line of succession
Angus Reid poll also found that only 29% of Canadians want a long-lasting constitutional monarchy, while almost half are against the idea.
Once again noting that Canadian legal precedent is that the Canadian Parliament can remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the line of succession to the Canadian Crown via normal legislation *separately and distinct from any UK legislation*. nationalpost.com/news/canada/...

The lack of coverage today for the Glasgow fire has been absolutely shocking. A major incident, which burnt down a building hundreds of years old, in the centre of the largest city in Scotland, attached to the busiest train station - a fire lasting *7 hours* has been mostly documented by livesteams.
