Would explain why HF propagation is chaotic this morning :-)
Would explain why HF propagation is chaotic this morning :-)
Today the intermittent problems with the short vertical were found and repaired. Eliminated was a corroded solder joint at the antenna base, and a short jumper-adapter at the transmitter that was faulty and would open when flexed a certain way. Added was a slightly better ground system. Today is a somber day. News of more death, destruction, war, and the bombing of a school full of children is more than a bit troubling. I do not understand how any rational person can support this. Also, why is the only country the world with a history of using nuclear bombs on civilians also the one policing and preaching to the rest of the world on nuclear weapons? May the world somehow, someday know true peace and not whatever _this_ is. Until then, I distract my old mind with little projects and use my little tiny 'voice' to call for justice and peace in the world.
Today's update.

2026-02-27 Was CW @ 8 WPM only today for a few hours, temporary ID only. Transmitter was 'Qerpy' and power was ~100 milliwatts into a very short and probably not tuned very well antenna. Previously this week, sporadic experimenting with hellschreiber [mostly FSK] modes. I love this mode because it's just so elegant and sort of complex and yet simple. Fine tuning FSK mode for clear text in very small bandwidth using just the SDR is fun. 'Chirpy' is out of commission for the time being, until I find my stash of BS170's. This transmitter will possibly be converted back to use as a tiny, portable transceiver. I am considering fitting Chirpy with a synth like the si5851. On the breadboard is a new milliwatt transmitter based on a si5851 paired with an ESP32, but it will be awhile before it is operational enough to connect to an actual antenna. Temporary ID will be changing. I'm tired of seeing that filthy d-bag's name. Ep--ein, I mean. Voice of the Angry Cat - VOAC Experimental QRP HF ISM Band Radio Station 13554.500 kHz 13561.900 kHz
