It's impossible to believe that such advocacy isn't related to extreme ableism. And not difficult to see how the application of Track 2 MAiD will soon extend to any oppressed and exploited Canadian.
loneliness and social isolation."
It should be impossible to continue to advocate for a law that extends death to disabled, chronically ill, economically starved and under-served Canadians. It's disingenuous in the extreme to characterise such a death as a right.
the death response to structural inequality is right on track.
As noted by Isabel Grant and Elizabeth Sheehy, "we ... cannot differentiate intolerable suffering based on disability from the suffering caused by inadequate housing and health care, poverty,
often complicated by sexism and racism.
Governments are complicit in the creation of that suffering. Given that Track 2 MAiD is due to be expanded to include mental illness and suffering in 2027 and given that
@dyingwithdignity.ca advocates for that expansion
and policy that would see us die while we wait. This is not like any "right" I have heard of.
The biggest cause of illness, disability, disenfranchisement, personal and collective suffering, exploitation and oppression is poverty and economic insecurity
on an individual basis, governments should allow medical professionals to assist our suicides, collectively.
It's impossible to believe that @dyingwithdignity.ca
cares about the lives of the disabled and chronically ill, since it is prepared to advocate for the continuance of law
but insists that, in the meantime, those whose lives are blighted by poverty, insecurity and inadequate medical and social supports should not be deprived of the "right" to access Track 2 MAiD. In other words, in order to solve the problem of structural inequality
In response, in an article in this morning's Globe & Mail Dying with Dignity Canada (@dyingwithdignity.ca) has acknowledged the structural inequalities that affect disabled and chronically ill Canadians and called upon Canadian governments to solve this problem
The Committee expressed great concern that Canada is willing to provide us with death before (or rather than?) providing us with the supports we need to live.
It is generally recognised that the suffering of those of us with disabilities or chronic illnesses is very often caused or exacerbated by failures in medical services, housing, income and social supports.
Track 2 MAiD is offered to Canadians with illnesses or disabilities who are suffering but whose deaths ARE NOT REASONABLY FORESEEABLE.
Last week the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recommended that Canada scrap Track 2 MAiD (medically assisted death) or if you prefer to describe it accurately, assisted suicide.
On assisted dying & domestic violence:
- 88% of “mercy” killers are male (& mercy killings are often very violent)
- Men are overwhelmingly the survivors of “failed suicide pacts”
- 76% of palliative care drs oppose change in law on assisted dying

I can only say that the usual feminists have spoken out about the treatment of Palestinians with a focus on women as well.
I’m proud that we published the first research into how police and authorities were blaming girl victims of systemic rape and abuse way back in 2012
