Just a few months ago, a child in the US developed the most feared complication of measles (subacute sclerosing panencephalitis) from an infection they had years ago when they were too young to be vaccinated. I hate to think about what is being unleashed by this virus as a future tragedy.
Congratulations @jmschenkel.bsky.social!!!
It’s a #gdTcell flavored #MucosalMonday! @saraalonsomera.bsky.social & I chat about the magic of our favorite cell type and our recent paper elucidating the role of the microbiota in driving gd IEL regulatory function on this month’s @societymucosalimm.bsky.social podcast.

We’ve developed a really cool model of human diabetic neuropathy with demyelination, and have now gotten data showing we can prevent it.
Opinions welcomed:
- we’re doing small drug screens
- trying to find funding (where??)
- anyone interested in collaborating?
Another excellent #Viewpoint! Thank you to our contributors @priyadevarajan.bsky.social, @rzappasodi.bsky.social, Novalia Pishesha, Jui-Hsia Weng, Kate Alexander, Yadira Soto-Feliciano, and @kedmiranit.bsky.social ✨

It’s a crucial reminder to be more empathetic and supportive of our immigrant trainees and colleagues, who pour themselves into their work while navigating a quiet, personal sacrifice. Happy Diwali! 🪔
We had a conversation that was a fleeting comfort in a silence that felt heavy. This annual reflection reinforces a simple truth about the path many of us have chosen. The heart we pour into our science is the same heart that longs for family and traditions far away. 🪔
I recall the profound loneliness I felt when I was on campus splitting cells on a weekend that, back home, would be filled with the light and warmth of family. I remember seeing an Indian face in the cafeteria, walking up to him and wishing him Happy Diwali. 🪔
Amidst the quietness of a Diwali weekend this year, one that refuses to become familiar despite 15 years away from home, I remember my first one as an immigrant Ph.D. student. 🪔

mitochondria from bipolar patients are closer to the nucleus in these images; control patients' are spread out further
15 years in the making, we confirmed that mitochondria - the powerhouse of the cell - have an unusual localization in patients who experience psychosis (including schizophrenia and bipolar disorders). You’ll never guess what kind of patient cells we used to make this discovery… 🧵
This sounds just like the kind of thoughts and ideas I have when I am trying to focus on writing a grant!

My only regret is that we didn't go with the title "One buffer to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them", although "Squeaky clean staining" was a pretty good options too!
This looks like an amazing fix and I will definitely try. The overnight transcription factor staining protocol was already a game changer and I recommend it to everyone.
Thank you to

for allowing us,

, to discuss about the importance of scientific exchange and about platforms to make it happen.

For our #flowcytometry peeps, would you like to have a single fix/perm protocol that is optimised for everything? One that preserves fluorophores while allowing simultaneous TF and cytokine staining? How about 100-fold cheaper?
You got it:

While the postings state the priority for virologists, note that we are also open to immunologists working in models of infectious disease/host pathogen interactions!
