Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!

"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."

Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution:
If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow.

If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious.

By making these choices, you will literally save lives.

Small but not defenseless πŸ¦‡

In our latest paper, we describe a behavior in disc-winged bats that is endearing and a little fearsome. When threatened, these bats shake the leaf, producing a loud drumming-like sound. This display likely signals to predators that the bats are aware of their presence.

Massive tropical bat is surprisingly family oriented, rare videos show New footage reveals spectral bats β€œhugging,” playing, and bringing food to their young

Spent the start of my week learning all about spectral bats, huge, carnivorous creatures who are shockingly sweet.

AI Is a Mass-Delusion Event Three years in, one of AI’s enduring impacts is to make people feel like they’re losing it.

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it

Why Narcissists Emerge as Leaders Even in Childhood Many children choose to follow peers with more narcissistic tendenciesβ€”and self-esteem may be part of the complex power dynamics involved

Narcissists aren’t better leaders, yet they frequently rise to positions of power. Why? A study by Nevicka et al. suggests people with low self-esteem are drawn to themβ€”they feel more valued. Teaching kids healthy leadership matters, but we must also tackle why people choose the wrong leaders.
