I work for one of MIT's labs, and he played some live music for our most recent director's retirement party. This was almost 2 years ago. I had, at that time, found out about his DoD connections. He still looked like that.

Totally! I'm sure both are big influences for Ethan (like most artists our age). But his work is also so uniquely his own, even while being able to pick out some of those influences.
I ordered both issues this morning. I highly recommend you do the same. Ethan is one of my favorite artists of the past several years, and I think his inking and draftsmanship are outstanding. Go check out the link in his post.
