Nature not a blocker to housing growth, inquiry finds
Commons committee report challenges ‘lazy narrative’ used by ministers that scapegoats wildlife and the environment
This is what many of us have been saying. Part 3 of the Planning & Infrastructure Bill is based on a myth: that we don't have enough homes because wildlife and green spaces are protected. It will solve nothing, and inflict terrible harm on our remaining ecosystems

This is exactly what we’ve been saying for months and have the evidence to back it up. Unlike the government who have zero evidence or justification for their approach. They are basically destroying what’s left of our wildlife to line the pockets of the big housing companies.

Housing secretary tells Labour MPs to vote down planning bill amendment
Amendment restricts protection for animals to allow faster house building
Watching Labour MPs take a wrecking ball to nature makes me so angry & so sad. Their action tonight voting down amendments to the #PlanningBill intended to protect wildlife & habitats from destruction is so reckless & so counterproductive. People didn’t vote Labour for this 👇

👉 Last chance to influence the Planning and Infrastructure Bill.
Yes, I know, you may be sick of reading about this or feel you’ve already written to your MP several times or are running out of energy on this long running saga - BUT - please, for nature’s sake, write one more time. 1/3

The unintelligent rhetoric from this govt is already giving developers the nod to pursue developments that wouldn't have been considered before that'll trash our last important wildlife sites. Shame they won't tackle the real reasons this country has gone to the dogs #brexit and useless politicians

Government U-turns on support for bird-friendly swift bricks in new homes
Housing minister Steve Reed refuses to back mandating measure, despite giving support while in environment job
Can you actually believe this?
A swift brick costs £35
But this dire, anti-nature government, must make sure it does all it can to maximise house builders' profits
Totally inexcusable

We are being sold a false story that nature is the enemy. That newts, bats, snails and spiders are somehow responsible for the so-called housing crisis and a blocker to economic growth. This is a deliberate lie - using a cynically chosen group of species that could be found in a witches cauldron.

‘People just lie’: How Riverford’s Guy Singh-Watson became the most brutally honest farmer in Britain
The organic veg pioneer talks to the Guardian about being unemployable, his unconventional father and his recent autism diagnosis
Not many farmers would tell you that we need to eat less meat; that wealthy landowners shouldn’t moan about inheritance tax but should “pay the whole fucking lot”; & that Reform UK are “a load of rich rightwing toffs” 😂
But Devon farmer Guy Singh-Watson does:

Step up restoration of ancient woodland before it is lost, Forestry England urged
Campaigners say just 5.8% of irreplaceable habitat at publicly owned sites has been fully restored in 10 years
Forestry England owns 100s of 'Ghost Woods' - ancient woodlands felled to make way for monoculture plantations.
They've promised to restore them - but new analysis by @wildcard.land shows they won't meet their target until the 22nd century!
