She/They Hobbies include books, history, video games, writing and a bit of witchcraft; am rather fond of cafés, forests, libraries and ruins. Let's try to make things better for a change; we deserve and can do better than this. PFP by Art of Jexion.

There is a lot of evil in the world, but do not have to accept or tolerate it.

We can demand a better world.

The irony is that when I finally realized that better things ARE possible, the anger, the anxiety & the depressive episodes largely vanished from my life.

I began to see the good things in the world; I began to see the little things that I can do to change things, that WE can change things.

to admit that a better world is possible..... is to admit that you have accepted less & thus the only life that we know of was made worse by their own inaction. we are honest in our failings, to say that is us as well, but they can't even be honest about it.

There is a certain grim satisfaction in seeing fascists foiled by literal geography because the world does not care about their manly macho posturing and the Strait of Hormuz is the Strait of Hormuz.

Feel like there's some parallels to be drawn here with climate change too.

Star Trek continues to have lessons especially in current times.

Cao Cao built support, as he made grand promises, and he delivered on a lot of them.

It wasn't just empty words.

Nor was it just complaining.

It is rather telling that while we hear such fears from the regime, yet not even halfhearted promises from the opposition.

Feels to me like whoever runs on "I am going to put into prison every single person currently in power in government, business, or law enforcement" has a decent chance at 500 electoral votes.

There's a "TV apocalypse" in video game preservation as CRTs go extinct, expert says, and that's just the tip of the iceberg as work continues to save retro hardware CRTs are just one of the essential bits of retro tech that historians and "the community" need to preserve

A working CRT is apparently one of the last critical links to a generation of video games.

That is a very accurate observation.

We have a lot of old medieval academic texts that refer to books that we have never found.

Civilization didn't make evolutionary theory obsolete, it merely moved from a biological to a memetic nature.

What we must remember is that we're a communal species, and we evolved to take care of one another.

Alone, we're weak & vulnerable.

Together, we're night omnipotent.

There is a counterpoint to this, the disenfranchised & the dispossessed are incentivized to cultivate solidarity with one another.

Groups who don't are more vulnerable & preyed upon.

We die alone, or we struggle and survive together.

What we can learn from this is that our political classes & the capitalist class will persecute all who threaten their power.

Those who don't, they lose their influence & are replaced by more ruthless people.

It is why police are more violent against socialists, than against fascists.

Any social construct like a guild, a party, a religion or a state has a prime motivator in preserving its own existence.

Those who don't aren't selected for and cease to be, leaving intact the self-preserving constructs.

Not a moral judgment, but an amoral process, and at times a ruthless process.

P. Kropotkin Mutual Aid A Factor of Evolution

Kropotkin offers me a fascinating perspective on history & society; evolutionary theory is applicable to society, on an abstract level.

Not social darwinist nonsense here; but memes generate & are selected for, much like genes.

I'll elaborate.

On a related subject, I am struck by how widespread anarchist & socialist magazines were, ca a century ago.

Considering that you would need a physical printer, ink, paper, distribution networks AND evade the army/police.

The "cide" in genocide means "killing". As in killing a whole people (a genus) rather than homicide meaning killing a person (a homo).

The right wing in the UK are deliberately dismantling an understanding of what genocide means by associating it with migration patterns and cultural evolution.

The Ark, from Mutant Year Zero

The Ark, from Mutant Year Zero

Post Apocalypse isn't one genre, but two within one.

The first is a dream for a community, a home, and building something anew.

The second is that of a raider or a petty warlord, the dream of antisocial arseholes who just want to hurt others.

Reminder that the only time Mastercard has flinched is when outrage was directed at them. Attacking platforms like SubscribeStar for Visa/Mastercard's extralegal censorship is exactly the deflection they want.
