Akira Heavy Industrial Funicular. A blender model of this chunky lift from Akira. Bathed in a red glowing light and surrounded by a maze of pipework.

Nostromo Corridor. Inspired by the 1979 film, Alien. A murky, dimly lit, corridor extends away from the viewer. A tangle of pipes, ducts and cables clutter the scene. In the background, a shadow of a Xenomorph is cast against a wall in pale green light.

Interstellar Craft. A large 'colony or generation' ship. A huge hemispherical shield at one end, protecting a spine of hubs, tanks, habitats, and engines, from space debris. Cooling vanes extend away from large glowing engines at the rear. In the foreground, a one person maintenance pod, with grabbing arms extended.

The Pelagic. Front and rear views of The Pelagic, a deep space exploration vessel. Twin, vertical cockpits, at the front are surrounded by sensors and equipment pods. At the top, cooling vanes glow yellow and red. At the rear, a single engine, surrounded by fuel tanks, glows hot in the vacuum of space.

A few months ago, after some failed attempts, I started trying to learn 3D seriously. Not to become a 3D artist or expert, but so I could make use of 3D in my other artwork.

After completing a short online course in Blender, this is where I'm up to…
