This study shows that meaningful community engagement provides deeper insights into the complex, interconnected health and social challenges faced by underserved populations. Addressing these issues requires integrated, multi-sectoral pathways, with local government tackling immediate place-based determinants and national policy addressing structural drivers, such as inequitable resource distribution, inadequate housing and gaps in essential services, a whole-of-government commitment.

I'd like to know more about how exactly they derived that headline finding - the report says "According to this study, 22% of respondents with children under four years old do not read for joy, which we can interpret as not being read to." This interpretation seems to be doing some heavy lifting

New research alert!
📢Published in #EuropeanGeriatricMedicine, this @hrbireland.bsky.social-funded scoping review examined #delirium and #cognitiveassessment data items currently collected by national #hipfracture registries (HFRs).
Just out! Our peer-reviewed critique of the Cass Review has been published by BMC Medical Research Methodology. Please read and share. We show that the Cass Review is fatally flawed and should not be the basis for policy or practice in transgender healthcare.

In conclusion
✅ Ongoing efforts to improve stroke prevention are crucial to ensure sustainability of stroke care in Ireland
@rcsi-research.bsky.social @rcsipophealth.bsky.social @irishheart-ie.bsky.social
We found that future need for stroke care will depend on whether stroke risk continues to decline or not, and at what rate.
Even in the most optimistic scenario, need for stroke care will increase, especially for poststroke dementia.
In a pessimistic scenario, need could increase by 50%.
📰 In our new paper in BMJ Open, we look at the following questions:
📈 How will population ageing impact need for stroke services in Ireland?
📉 Will changing trends in stroke epidemiology make a difference?

We're recruiting for a research assistant to work on 2 ongoing research projects focused on the epidemiology of stroke in Irl. The role will involve working closely w/ lead researcher, Dr @eithnesexton.bsky.social. The research is funded by the HRB.

In optimistic scenario for improvements in prevention, it could stay about the same as today. In more pessimistic scenarios, it could go up by ~60%.
In ANY scenario, post-stroke dementia will increase.
We need to maximise prevention, and plan to increase service capacity
