Fungus-farming termites keep of fungal gardens free from invaders—until their colony weakens💥

We mapped #VOCs to uncover chemical changes during comb decay and found 443 VOCs. Some may signal distress or act in fungal defense!

We just finalised our sampling at Søholt Storskov (Aage V. Jensen foundation). We have been visiting the same study site across seasons to survey biodiversity with eDNA tools. Huge thank to Jacob P. Andersen and Ida Marquardtsen for helping us.

This year I also got to see multiple charismatic mammal and reptile species (non-bird vertebrates). Here is a selection of cool other vertebrates (mainly from Peru and Brazil) including Tamandua, Three-toed sloth, Black tamarin, Emperor tamarin, Giant River otters and Black Cayman.

I had the best birding year of my life this year, seeing 554 total bird species across Peru (349), Brazil (118), Portugal (104), Denmark (67), and Romania (21). This includes 264 lifers making my total global bird tally into 1,771. Here is a compilation of some of the amazing birds from this year.
