Just to be clear, I am personally not concerned about gas stations going away or becoming economically less viable. I'm giddy at the prospect that this might be a problem for people to solve in my lifetime.
Curb space is a valuable, publicly owned resource. Charging less than market rate is a subsidy and we all bear the burden.

This made me feel weirdly hopeful? Just hearing an expert talk about the problems of sunsetting fossil fuel infrastructure…we’re all yearning for those kinds of problems.

This is vibes-only but...single-stair just feels safer. Instead of a single wall of windows and a long hallway, like you find in a double-loaded corridor building, a single-stair building has the stairs right outside your unit. And you've got windows on 2 or 3 sides, not just 1.
