A photo of one of my art journal spreads. Inspired by the buzzards that were circling above the woods and fields near my home. I can only describe my art style as messy and grungy mixed media. On the right page is a drawing of a buzzard. I would describe this style as semi realistic. I don't draw all the feathers and patterns but the head is reasonably detailed, you can tell it's a buzzard. Or at least a bird of prey if you're not familiar with species. The body is just an outline of black and turquoise. The layered mixed media background is showing through the bird. The layers are made up of collage papers. stamping and stencilling. Mark making and journal writing. Messy paint and gesso applied with a brayer roller or palette knife. On the left page more of the same background. Two very scribbled, sketchy drawings of buzzards in flight. Amongst the scribbled journal writing are the words, "a graceful dance of buzzards". On the right a word sticker from a Tim Holtz collection says, "looking out the window".

A photo of a painting. I did this piece in 2023. It was a mixed media lesson with artist Melanie Rivers titled "The Mountain Path". Part of the year long mixed media art course, Life Book, Hosted by Artist Tamara Laporte of Willowing Arts. The piece is an art journal page. It has a portrait of a woman with stylised flowing hair. The main colour palette is soft green and yellow ochre, with a hint of purple-grey. in the foreground is a circle. Within the circle is a simple painting of a mountain. There are layers of collage papers, journal writing and paint within this piece. Some of the writing can be seen within her hair and around the mountain. I did this piece not long after my mother passed away. The layers of this painting hold space for my grief, connections, history, memories and healing.

I would like to walk around a moonlit garden with a flower in my hair and a bird on my arm, but the neighbours might have questions, as it is 1.30am.

The world feels a bit too crazy to go to sleep. What if the aliens arrive while I'm snoozing?

Layers of colours, bright pink and blue, with deep blue, black and white. The prominent stencil is a mandala which appears behind her head with a white glow. The painting has a very cosmic, galaxy vibe to it. I painted this back in January of 2021 as part of a mixed media art course called Life Book, hosted by the artist Tamara Laporte.
