If you're one of the people spreading rumours about the Tumbler Ridge's identity, maybe ask yourself why it's necessary for the world to know now, rather than later today, when the trade-off is the possibility of fuelling a moral panic against vulnerable people.
Shame on ALL MEDIA, ALL POLITICIANS, and any individual who spreads disgusting fake news and unverified claims. This has real implications for an already marginalized group. There must be accountability and I hope every "journalist" who published lies feels incredibly ashamed of themselves.

My thoughts are with the children, the families and the first responders who have gone through unimaginable horrors.
And that's exactly why we have to pause and reflect. It's in moments of shock that propaganda resonates. We don't yet know the full story of what happened in Tumbler Ridge, and opportunists know this is the perfect time to craft a folk devil to steer people towards.
I thought about not posting this because I don't even want to amplify this disgusting agenda, but I think it's very important to be aware of the communications tactics that are being used constantly.

It's absolutely abhorrent that this is the message politicians like Tara Armstrong decide to send.

If only everyone could see that billionaires will never allow emancipation because their entire existence is predicated on the oppression of the working class. Perhaps hundreds of years from now, people will look at this era with the same disbelief that we hold for the horrors of the inquisition.
How many times have we heard the nationalist slogans about βAmerica Firstβ and βCanada Firstβ? These ultranationalist slogans signal that emancipation could be possible for the white working class through the oppression of βthe otherβ.

The security machine includes police, military, immigration enforcement, & any institution whose purpose is to criminalize people & enforce laws. Womenβs bodies, particularly those of racialized women, exist as territory to be policed & violated. This is a tradition that goes back hundreds of years.
Many people are rightfully horrified at the news, yet they turn inward to hide away from the violence. If we truly want to stop it, we have to first face the truth about patriarchal and white nationalist ideologyβeven those who feel they arenβt impacted by it.
Todayβs violence by the hands of immigration enforcement isnβt new or just a Trump problem, like some political centrists maintain. Itβs the security machine functioning exactly as designed on white supremacy and violent misogyny.
