Will the Global South – especially Brazil, South Africa, India, and China – step up to fill the climate leadership vacuum left by the West’s rupture? @mafolly.bsky.social, Jayati Ghosh, and @jmhaas.bsky.social hope the answer is yes. bit.ly/4mVN4t2

I am thrilled to share with you the keynote on „Sustainable Development and the Crisis of US hegemony“ that @adamtooze.bsky.social gave at the Berlin Forum on Global Cooperation 2025, challenging the antipolitical nature of the SD discourse. A true highlight of the debate youtu.be/NHn9dSQ05JU?...

"It has become abundantly clear that Trump 2.0 is using a moral panic about “woke” and pro-Palestinian protests as pretexts to subjugate institutions posing multiple threats to aspiring autocrats."

Frohe Ostern!
If the IRS deprives Harvard of its tax-exempt status, that's very bad for Harvard but it's also a catastrophe for the IRS. Instead of a neutral agency that enforces tax law, it will become a tool of partisan warfare. It may never recover.

Maybe Denmark should send some troops to Greenland to protect JD Vance and his wife during their visit. There have been threats of an invasion recently.
1/ Just got off the phone with my team in Palestine. Last night's attacks on Gaza are yet another war crime by Israel. Over 400 people—mostly civilians—were killed, many in residential buildings, a designated shelter, and other civilian infrastructure.
ICE stripped a German green card holder naked, drove him from Boston to Vermont to Rhode Island, put him in a cold shower, deprived him of medication, sleep and food until he collapsed.
No one knows why he was detained.
This is not about fighting antisemitism. This is all about silencing opposing views. Today it’s pro-Palestine, tomorrow it’s pro-Ukraine, and then it’s just deporting whomever they don’t like. And then everyone is silent.
First they came for the communists. I did not speak out, I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists. I did not speak out, I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews. I did not speak out, I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me. There was no one left to speak for me.
if you find yourself reluctant to support the guy at Columbia because you find some of the politics he espoused distasteful or even abhorrent, you should know that this is exactly the reaction that they hoped for in choosing him as a target for unlawful detention based on political speech.
I really wish people would care about Trump using Pinochet's tactics to disappear people for speaking their mind.
Let's be clear. Buying American weapons is a real risk to European security at this point due to political interference. Actually, it's an issue to anyone in the world relying on top US military equipment. Cc @jakluge.de
NEW: The actions of Trump and Vance in recent weeks highlight something under-appreciated.
The American right is now ideologically closer to countries like Russia, Turkey and in some senses China, than to the rest of the west (even the conservative west).
My column: www.ft.com/content/3046...
People need to understand that we are in an entirely new paradigm. It is now Russia the US against Ukraine and Europe. This is not a shift in US policy, it is a transformation of what kind of country the United States is in the world
The historical function of Teump is to convince the Germans of the need for more Europe

When the Americans have lost Kallas, you know it's curtains for the transatlantic alliance.
Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyy, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone.
this is one of those analyses from @adamtooze that are really super-insightful (albeit terrifying in a way). If you are anywhere close to power in Berlin - share this with the ones that are going to take decisions in the next weeks. We need to upgrade our rail infrastructure for so many reasons!
Eine Europa-Flagge die in einem Fenster hängt.
For the first time in my life I bought a flag. I felt the urge to show Trump, Musk and Putin that we European citizens love our united, free and peaceful continent, and that we are ready to make sacrifices for it.
