I've wanted for a long time to write a good feature on Erica Dambach, Penn State's women's soccer coach who grew up in the Philly suburbs and runs one of the college game's top programs.

No. It wouldn’t. Full stop.
The players who need this stage the most are the ones who can least afford to be in a standoff with their clubs over a release window CAF created with 12 days notice and zero accountability.
CAF is essentially telling African women playing at the highest club levels to choose between their federation and their livelihood, again. And this tournament is a WWC qualifier with 6 spots to Brazil 2027 on the line.
And July 25–August 16 isn’t a fix. It’s a different problem. NWSL is in the thick of regular season. WSL and most European leagues are deep in preseason or opening weeks. UWCL qualifying starts in August.
Let’s be clear about who absorbs the cost: Players who left their clubs. Per diems and travel already spent by cash-strapped federations. Coaches who built camp plans now binned. Contracts that may look different by July. The players pay the price every time. Every. Single. Time.
Morocco was awarded WAFCON hosting rights in Oct 24. That’s 17 months to flag that March wasn’t workable. Instead, CAF let squads fly in, training camps run, athletes disrupt their seasons and THEN pulled the plug 12 days out. This isn’t unforeseen. It’s mismanagement dressed up in a press release.

Being criticized for supporting the injection of additional funds into player compensation, after having played with a full-time job and housed teammates on welfare ten years ago in this very league, might perhaps be the nicest thing that’s happened to me so far this year.
