When you go to an open mic night, you realize the point of art is not really to be a fancy person whose name everybody knows. Amateur singers & poets with day jobs deliver the most stirring & moving pieces. Their names may never be known & they may not care, the point was to share for someone.

The way this is all set up and that your doctor can just decide to derail your entire week is ridiculous.

Like am I not allowed to travel ever? Am I just supposed to be able to go (45 minutes from my home, I might add) whenever? People around me can’t drop everything to drive me. I’m so over the US’ puritanical drive to punish illness.

Hello! I’m Tia. I’m a 1st gen scholar with a PhD in psych. Trained as a behavioral neuroscientist, I broadly studied hippocampal dependent spatial navigation (how do we get from one place to the next?). My lab days are behind me but you can find me writing about cool science.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Each year, the trans community loses too many lives, especially trans women of color, to hate and violence.

More than ever, we must stand by our trans family and support them, hold space for them, and insist the scapegoating and targeting stop.
