Whenever I visit Ranworth, St Helen, I always take a peek at the C15th Antiphoner, described on the church website as, 'a high quality medieval service book. It is most likely to have been written by professional scribes in Norwich around the year 1460.' #medieval #heritage #manuscript #history
Almighty God, whose Son revealed in signs and miracles the wonder of your saving presence: renew your people with your heavenly grace, and in all our weakness sustain us by your mighty power; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

My first sighting of snowdrops here in Ireland. I associate them with hope.
Hope?
Winter passes gradually into spring.
There's a lot to trouble the mind just now but we need quiet moments & perhaps a generous helping of hope.
Looking for something to do on your lunch break today?
Join us at 1.10pm as Samuel Bristow, Assistant Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral, performs our first lunchtime organ concert of 2026 π΅

Many churches around the country are offering warm spaces this winter - places to find community, support and warmth at what can be a difficult time of year.
Find one on AChurchNearYou.com by searching for churches in your area and filtering by the 'warm space' tag.
John of the Cross called it the "dark night of the soul"βnot God's absence but God's presence felt as absence.
Julian of Norwich wrote "all shall be well" from isolation during plague.
They knew: winter is formative, not failure.

Almighty God, in Christ you make all things new: transform the poverty of our nature by the riches of your grace, and in the renewal of our lives make known your heavenly glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

βLove is His meaning.β Julian of Norwichβs words still echo: in suffering and joy, Godβs love is the thread that binds all. π #Hope #ChristianWisdom

How did Christian spirituality come to flourish in the Middle Ages, and how can we access the lives and experiences of people as they practised their faith in that period?
Join us at @sarumcollege.bsky.social from 20th-23rd April to explore these questions with a fantastic team of lecturers. /1

Bells of Norwich - Albion Christmas Band
Not a Christmas song! Written by Sydney Carter, it's about Julian of Norwich, a 14C mystic. The singer is Kellie While, daughter of Chris While who has been in a folk duo with Julie Matthews for many years.

God our Father, in love you sent your Son that the world may have life: lead us to seek him among the outcast and to find him in those in need, for Jesus Christβs sake. Amen.

Julian of Norwich really surprised me: Like, I know that the middle age mystics are a little weird and sometimes that makes them inaccessible but this isn't that.
Julian of Norwich was a tremendous theologian. In todayβs post at Sub-Creations, I examine her understanding of the Trinity.
The beauty of revisiting poetry is discovering new gems you did not have eyes for yet, for instance me finding the words of Julian of Norwich in T.S. Elliot's Four Quartets.
And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well
Julian of Norwich Revelations of Divine Love
The Anchorite Stuff - Julian of Norwichβs Revelations of Divine Love provide a fascinating window into a life of devotion, as Julian recounts her vivid and often horrifying visions.
FAVE BIT: the descriptions of her visions are truly something
In Ps.85:8b today: '...for he will speak peace to his people.' Julian of Norwich put it this way: 'God is our true resting place.' God is coaxing, calling, wooing us to peace. Resist the culture wars. Make the peace bigger than the chaos. Be still. Peace is my work today.
Almighty God, who wonderfully created us in your own image and yet more wonderfully restored us through your Son Jesus Christ: grant that, as he came to share in our humanity, so we may share the life of his divinity; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Happy New Year!
No doubt Easter eggs will be on supermarket shelves tomorrow.
The daffodils blooming in Bishopβs Garden think that Easter is already here. Climate change confusion?
It's the 1st of January, and today's the feast of Mary, Holy Mother of God. Here she is in a tender scene with her son in 14th Century French glass now in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow. 1/3

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was circumcised in obedience to the law for our sake and given the Name that is above every name: give us grace faithfully to bear his Name, to worship him in the freedom of the Spirit, and to proclaim him as the Saviour of the world; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
On the first day of the year, we come together in prayer. π
