You already had me agreeing with you, and then you name-dropped Stafford Beer and I squeaked a little. Extremely underrated theorist!

Avi Loeb will say this is evidence of extraterrestrials
This is absolutely bizarre, Iβve never seen anything like it, and I still donβt know what to make of it.
Some comments on solar cycle prediction from me in this month's Photonics Focus: spie.org/news/photoni...
"Major Chinese funder to stop paying fees for 30 pricey open-access journals... journals affected include Nature Communications... Springer Nature, which owns Nature Communications... did not immediately provide comment." They charge $7350 per article. π³ Greed. www.science.org/content/arti...
I also have a particular paper that keeps getting cited incorrectly. It's so fucking sad that some researchers can't even be bothered to write an intro. No self-respecting researcher would publish slop.
"You're right. That was a poisonous mushroom you ate because I told you it was safe. Would you like to learn more about poisonous mushrooms?"
A Meta VP saying something unbelievably stupid.
Imagine how much Meta are paying a VP to use AI to delete their own inbox and then say something stupid like "Real inboxes hit different." Now imagine how much good could be done if that wealth was redistributed to aid Palestine. We live in the dumbest, cruellest world.
'βWeβre not blaming God for this,β said 35-year-old Kristina. βYes, it hurts, of course, it hurts. But God has chosen Ethan for a reason. God is doing something, and we're gonna glorify his name regardless."'
Weird that god just wanted to give some poor kid brain damage but ok.
I wrote a review of Solar Cycle 25 predictions here: doi.org/10.3847/2515... Predictions were, as you say, not good.
Weird how they're never releasing lists of diseases cured by AI or landfills cleaned by AI
BBC article reading: "No signs of any jeopardy for Starmer. βOne Labour MP, who is often critical of the prime minister, texts from inside: βIf we could bottle this Keir and show it to the country weβll walk [the next general election]." There are several noisy rounds of applause we can hear. No signs for now at least of any jeopardy for the prime minister tonight."
Delusional. The only place they're walking is into the bin. This genocidal labour party is now polling lower than they ever did for the 2015, 2017 and 2019 elections. Keir Starmer and his cabinet are going to be trounced in the next one (assuming they survive until then), and they deserve to be.
'Pwease I'm just a smol landlord, I only do a little exploitation...' Best bit: "What happens to me when I can no longer afford to run these buildings?" You stop being a parasite and you get a real job...
*Another* Epstein with horrible opinions?
I can't wait to "meet and revisit with some- our great courageous leaders". Imagine recording this and being like 'yeah, that take will do.'
"members" plural? Yikes...
It's also quite cruel... support.peta.org/page/37755/a...
I get plenty of this sort of predatory publishing nonsense in my inbox but this is the first time I've received one from a top 1% university. Can you not?

Elon Musk (xAI, Tesla, SpaceX), Bill Gates (Microsoft), and Richard Branson (Virgin Media, Virgin Galactic) all named in the Epstein files. It's almost as if these tech-bro billionaire types are (allegedly) the worst people imaginable... π€ www.bbc.com/news/live/cv...; www.bbc.com/news/article...

Worse, I'm not even sure that their conclusions were wrong... The journal could have simply allowed the authors to publish a correction/revision tuning up the language. They already published the critiques and authors' responses so why not let readers use their π§ and come to their own conclusions?

Love this, Jeff. Thanks for quoting me in the article! πΊ
Disclosure: I've been a proponent of tobacco harm reduction since 2019, and work as a Scientist & Data Analyst at Pinney Associates, a pharmaceutical & consumer healthcare consulting company. I provide consulting services on harm reduction to Juul Labs, which had no involvement in this unfunded work
... But not before it had been read thousands of times and cited dozens of times, including by state public health authorities. Sadly, the literature is rife with precisely this sort of shoddy work. We describe the methodological errors in the retracted paper here: pubpeer.com/publications...
Does e-cigarette use cause stroke? ~2 years ago, Gal Cohen & I alerted MDPI to fatal flaws in a published paper which claimed nicotine vaping causes stroke. This morning, the journal finally retracted the flawed article: doi.org/10.3390/neur... ... #tobaccocontrol #harmreduction #statistics
