The next Scot Govt must take bolder action to end the need for food banks.
All of political parties should commit to action in #SP26 manifestos & work with UK Govt to ensure everyone can afford the essentials
🚨 Hundreds of thousands in Scotland face hunger as hardship drags on.
📦 200,000 emergency food parcels were provided across Scotland in 2025.
🧒 56% of parcels were for families with children.
📈 That’s down 13% on 2024 but up 64% since 2015.
Guardianship Scotland, delivered in partnership by us and @scotrefugeecouncil.bsky.social, is calling on all political parties ahead of the Scottish Election in 2026 to protect the rights of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. Read all our calls 👇
We're calling on the Scottish Government to:
💙 Make the School Meal Debt Fund permanent (until it is no longer needed)
💚 Increase free school meal eligibility to all low-income families receiving the Scottish Child Payment to prevent school meal debt in the first place
The School Meal Debt Fund has been a vital support for struggling families worried about feeding their children at home and at school. The impact of the fund has been far greater than first anticipated, reaching 70k children & their families. It must continue until we #EndSchoolMealDebt for good.
