Thoughtful Patron, Sir Stephen Fry, gave a talk for us last week about philosophy in prisons and the public sphere, including schools, explaining in his own inimitable way why philosophy matters and why everyone should have access to it. #betterthanbread
Alexander Edlich

Something I wrote...
So I went to see Collabro last night at Lichfield Cathedral. Not only are their voices SENSATIONAL but they are amazing role models.
Watching them sing For Good as a tribute to their friendship is one of the most positive examples of masculinity I've seen in a long time.

The world may be on fire but it did just get a little better.
Thank-you Muppets.

My review of The Overthinkers' Club: Happy List.
A funny, warm book giving an honest, unfiltered perspective on all things tween through the eyes of Birdie... an overthinker.

Daria Cybulska
Todays post is by Daria Cybulska, Director of Programmes and Evaluation at Wikimedia UK. Presenting an exploration of the role of emotion in conspiracy theory. What role does emotion play in driving tendency towards conspiratorial thinking?

imperfectcognitions....
Although teaching media and information literacy undoubtedly builds resilience to misinformation and fake news, schools do need to recognise these similarities when teaching, particularly in a time when so many young people are vulnerable to conspiracy theories.

In this week's @imperfectcognitions.com blog Daria Cybulska presents research showing that skills taught in information literacy are similar to those of conspiracy theorists.

Gorgeous Liverpool Albert Docks. One of my absolute favourite cities.

Not sure there is much that could be more comforting than a library at Christmas after dark.

Forget the best Christmas film....just the best film of all time period.
My review of Silent Night by Emma Read for @schoolreadinglist.bsky.social
Not your average cosy Christmas tale...

This project was an absolute dream come true, as was meeting the wonderful Sir Stephen Fry who narrated the shows.
We had wonderful support from the #philosophy community in this journey to bring critical thinking and #oracy to children no matter what their background.

What a fantastic event. Congratulations to all involved!
Surely one of the biggest patriarchal flexes is setting up society to make women exhausted, then getting us to spend all our money on products to hide the fact that we are exhausted.
What happens when we misuse medical terms like 'OCD'?
This week on the #projectEPIC blog @robbiemorgan.bsky.social writes an excellent post about hermeneutical disarmament.

The Portuguese tell it like it is and I respect that.
In Lisbon for the #GLAMWikiPT and have already been to amazing talks on #openknowledge and #education.
Great workshop on #gender with @yclepit.bsky.social.
Great tour of the Museum of Lisbon too!
The theme of #resilience seems particularly appropriate this year.

A fantastic day at the Knowledge is Human conference hosted by @wikimediauk.bsky.social and @britishlibrary.bsky.social.
Very thought-provoking discussions on the information ecosystem in the age of AI.

Ah thank-you Matthew that definitely means a lot coming from you!
Absolutely! I know I have the confidence to trial my work at workshops and conferences (even if it's not the best) because I felt heard and supported at UoB events.
I will say that every experience I have had with Philosophy at the University of Birmingham has been inclusive and supportive, whether I have been there as a teacher, PhD student or as an ECR.
Women can't always say that... so thank-you.

This looks right up my street!
Excited to share this as I start my new role as Education Lead for Wikimedia UK.
I will be developing a programme of information literacy in schools aligned to WUK values of knowledge equity, representation and critical thinking as fake news and misrepresentation become increasingly prevalent.
So true!
