Slackware 96 from CD in the back of a Linux book I bought at the mall. Installed on a Pentium that replaced an ancient hand me down 286 with no modem. For the longest time I could either get X to run OR get a PPP connection going w/ minicom, but not both at the same time.

A couple weeks ago, I setup Home Assistant again, put a smart plug on our water heater, and configured a notification to alert when it goes offline because the GFCI outlet it’s plugged into trips a little too often.
It paid off today!

There’s some modern BBS software that looks kind of interesting, like nuskooler.github.io/enigma-bbs/. I’ve thought about trying to write something BBS-like with the Charm stuff (charm.land) in Go, but it’s so hard to want to do computer stuff after work.

As someone who has spent almost half his life doing martial arts, fuck the UFC. I started doing some BJJ in addition to Aikido a few years ago but if we didn’t have classes at my dojo I would never have started. It’s a great art but the prevailing culture around it is vomit inducing.
