Lastly, I came VERY close to teaching this, Jas Hammond’s “We Deserve Monuments.” This book was recommended to me by @thoughtsthatcarrie.bsky.social and is a powerful novel about intergenerational trauma, race, queerness, and social justice. It uncovers whose histories we tell and why.
My 2nd book is Bob the Drag Queen’s “Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert.” Harriet Tubman has come back to life (alongside many other historical figures) and reaches out to a music producer to produce a hip-hop album and concert to spread her message to a new audience. Timely, captivating, & beautiful.
Going to share some of mine, starting with Kirsten Menger-Anderson’s “The Expert of Subtle Revisions.” A historical mystery of Hase, looking for her father who has disappeared. A “genre-bending historical mystery,” this is a book I keep recommending.

My great grandma Hall passed away Friday at the young age of 105. I wish I could’ve talked to her more about her time on this earth. She has seen so much. May she rest in peace.
