“The Yearning for Adventure”
giclée art print

Hark! What was that?!
Our feline friend has heard mysterious noises emanating from out in the garden. Were the sounds an ‘it’ or a ‘them’? She thinks she sees shadowy shapes dart across the lawn and slither vthrough the shrubbery. The poor cat is trapped indoors. All she wants is to leap through that window into a moonlit landscape of wild curiosity filled with unknown and unseen excitements - and perhaps an exploit or two of good old mischief.

The loveliest coin designs. The detail on them was incredible.

people often ask me about my approach to impact and change. there’s also a common — though rarely stated —assumption that ai auditors or critics should work with developers/vendors to drive concrete changes... product retraction, guardrails, mitigations, etc...

Thousands of authors publish ‘empty’ book in protest over AI using their work About 10,000 writers including Kazuo Ishiguro, Philippa Gregory and Richard Osman join copyright campaign Thousands of authors including Kazuo Ishiguro, Philippa Gregory and Richard Osman have published an “empty” book to protest against AI firms using their work without permission. About 10,000 writers have contributed to Don’t Steal This Book, in which the only content is a list of their names. Copies of the work are being distributed to attenders at the London book fair on Tuesday, a week before the UK government is due to issue an assessment on the economic cost of proposed changes in copyright law. The one thing they do get upended about, rather than literally anything else at all whatsoever that they're meant to be overseeing: trivial matters like housing, healthcare, infrastructure, etc

If he does cancel, I doubt anyone will be upset other than Micheál himself. He shouldn't be going in the first place to get himself cancelled.

Middle East conflict is 'assault on international law' President Catherine Connolly has described the situation in the Middle East as a "deliberate assault on international law".

"What we have witnessed...are not political disputes. They are deliberate assaults on international law, the international laws that have underpinned global peace for 80 years. We must name them as such, without euphemism and without equivocation."

Some people are responding to this saying this doesn't extend to the more horrific things a child might experience, but I think that's incorrect and misguided. Yes, how you depict it and talk about it matters deeply, but things like abuse, neglect, self-harm, can all absolutely be tackled in kidlit.

Thankfully our President has more courage, honesty and empathy than our government and is willing to stand up for international law. This is exactly why the Irish people elected her.

Enroute back from an excellent conference on ‘Women in War in Britain, France and Ireland ’ at the Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale, in Boulonge Sur Mer’. Really excellent, thought provoking papers and great camarderie hanging with my sister historians - a lovely way to spend #IWD2026

What I would like are governments that are so keen to act in the interests of their people and the global community that they will listen carefully to criticism rather than ridicule or try to suppress it. Yes, I know I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one.

🧵I keep reading that men go to war or that one island because of their desire. But in order to desire, you have to accept that you lack. These men think they (should) have everything, but feel it’s not enough. Having to have possession over humans and wielding objects to destroy them is jouissance.

This is a more balanced, thoughtful and critical discussion. Fry uses genAI, but emphasises the importance of being clear about what it is and what it isn’t.

Totally agree with that assessment. No actual interest in being a leader or the wellbeing of the country. Just happy to be at the top of the pile to keep an eye on his own interests, imo.
