Spots of red light scattered through the galaxy mark where stars are actively forming. The galaxy is on a black background.
The latest image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope features a spiral galaxy with a certain inclination – one of about 70 degrees!

I've taken the ferry from Vallejo to San Francisco a few times, and it is, indeed, a beautiful ride. It's always nice getting to go home to the Bay Area.
